Decorating from the dollar store!

More Frugal Tips /The Royal Family/From Our Readers /Guest Post

In honor of The Dollar Tree accepting coupons I thought I’d share with you a fun decorating craft. You can pick up the supplies while you score some great deals! I found this cute silver serving dish at The Dollar Tree near my house. It’s cute, but I thought it would be even cuter if I turned it into a chalkboard sign! Super stylish and versatile!

All you need is the platter, chalkboard paint ( I purchased the bottle pictured below for a few bucks at Walmart and I’ll be able to use to for lots of crafts), and a foam brush(a bristle brush didn’t work for me). I also have pictured tape but I found that I didn’t need it. I ended up doing 3 light coats of paint and letting it dry an hour between each coat. Then you need to let it dry for 24 hours. After that time you need to condition it, which means take a piece of chalk and rub it on the side all over the surface. After that it’s ready to go!

This would be so cute for a wedding reception, parties, as menu board in the kitchen….as you can see it can be used in so many ways. Mine is sitting on a table in my entryway. I’m going to change the saying with each holiday and season.

Enjoy!

Great for weddings…your church could make one and then write the names of the bride and groom on it at each wedding. You could put it in the church foyer or use it to decorate the reception gift table. I wonder if you could find silver or gold glitter chalk?? ~ Queen Mum
