Legislative Changes to Lightbulbs in January – What You need to Know

I don’t know if you have heard yet but I freaked out when I heard that pretty soon you are no longer gonna be able to buy regular lightbulbs yep, legislative changes to lightbulbs. What… you have’t heard? Let me give you the deets.

New legislative changes in January will change what light bulbs can be manufactured and sold. They will be phasing out incandescent light bulbs. Don’t worry though,GE energy-efficient soft white light bulbs will be the closest available alternative to traditional incandescent bulbs.

No pun intended but then the light bulb went off in my head. If an energy smart bulb doesn’t have to be changed in 9 years do you know how much money that is going to save me? Not to mention I’m afraid of heights and I have really high ceilings in my living room and I absolutely HATE changing those bulbs. So the less I have to climb this ladder the better.

I ran to Walmart to see what I could find to solve the my afraid of heights issue and I had no idea how many light bulb choices there were?

Luckily GE had these great comparison charts on their website that compares each bulb, it’s life and how much it can save you.

I made my choices and these are the bulbs I ended up bringing home. The lighting in my kitchen and dining room are horrible. The lights are not bright enough and they hard to change so we decided to go with these first.

My next task will be to go around the house and count how many of each bulb I have and use GE’s saving calculator to find out how much money I can actually save. In my next post I hope to share with you the changes I have made and how much money I will be saving over all. Check out my entire shopping trip on my Google + story. You can also print off a $1 coupon for GE Light Bulbs.
