40 Uses for Vinegar

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

# Add approx 1/3 vinegar to 2/3 water into a spray bottle and spray over my shower screen every few days before taking a shower, then just wipe over with a cloth while taking a shower, it keeps it sparkling clean and takes off all the calcium buildup.

# Use as a rinse aid in the dishwasher.

# Mixed with water to clean your windows.

# Run a cup through your washing machine occasionally to keep it clean.

# Fill up a bucket and add ¾ cup of white vinegar. Use it to clean your floors. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to give it a nice smell.

# Fill ¼ of a spray bottle with white vinegar and top up with water, add a few drops of essential oils and use this to spray on your bench tops, bath and sinks.

# Clean your stovetop and oven by first sprinkle bicarb on dirt. Spray on the vinegar (straight vinegar). There will be a bubbly chemical reaction, and then you just wipe it off.

# ¼ cup of vinegar works as a fabric softener in your washing machine. It’s great for towels.

# Vinegar is great to rinse out a dishwasher. Run it though one cycle -no dishes and it keeps it smelling nice.

# Clean your windows with a mixture of vinegar and water and dry with newspapers. Your windows will sparkle.

# Use as an Air Freshner by mixing 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 tablespoon vinegar and 2 cups of water. After it stops foaming, mix well, and use in a spray bottle. Spray into the air as needed.

# Vinegar is a chewing gum dissolver - saturate the area with vinegar. If the vinegar is heated, it will work faster.

# For stains caused by grass, coffee, tea, fruits and berries. Soak clothing in full strength vinegar.

# Use half vinegar, half water to take pet odors out of carpets. Find the spot, and saturate it with about 1 1/2 times the original volume. Let set for awhile then blot up. Repeat if your cloth is very dirty after blotting.

# Kill grass or weeds that pop up in between pavers by pouring straight vinegar on them. This might take a couple of times to work completely.

# It is also helpful when children get lice, if you take warm vinegar and put it on the hair also take your nit comb and dip it in the vinegar. As you run it through the hair it helps remove the nits. It is supposed to be able to help break down the glue the nits use to stay attached to the hair.

# Keep a spray bottle of 50% vinegar, 50% water in the laundry. Spray it on clothing stains before tossing the clothing into the washing machine.

# Treat athlete's foot, by soaking in vinegar.

# Get rid of the smell of vomit or milk spills in cars by cleaning up the spill and then placing a bowl of vinegar in a bowl on the floor of the car, close it up for the night. In the morning there will be no more smell.

# To keep your freshly-cleaned oven from stinking up your house next time you bake something, wipe it with white vinegar poured directly on the sponge as a final rinse.

# Pour 1/4 cup vinegar to your dishwasher rinse cycle for streak free, sparkling dishes every time.

# When you have to leave your car outside overnight in the winter, mix 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water and coat the windows with this solution. This vinegar and water combination will keep windshields ice and frost-free.

# If you have problems with ants and other insects invading your home, they are probably crossing your door and window sills. Pour vinegar across the opening sill, it stops them coming in. For some reason, they will not cross it.

# Keep your drains clean and working great with vinegar. When they seem to be getting a bit sluggish, pour white vinegar down the kitchen and bathroom sinks and shower drain.

# Quite often muscle cramps, are caused by too low a level of potassium. Take a teaspoon of vinegar when suffering from a muscle cramp to quickly bring your potassium level back up and relieve the cramp.

# Pour vinegar around your children's sand pit to keep cats from using it as their litter box. Reapply about every two months.

# To clean your microwave, put 1 Tablespoon of vinegar, one cup of warm water & 1 or 2 drops of dishwashing liquid in a small microwave safe bowl. Put it in the microwave on high for 3-4 minutes and let stand for 15 minutes. Then wipe the microwave out with a damp sponge. The steam & use of vinegar loosens up the build up in the microwave.

# Keep cut flowers fresh longer (or even perk up droopy ones) by adding two tablespoons of vinegar and one tablespoon of sugar to the water.

# Use straight vinegar on a clean white cloth to clean spots from your carpet. This will dissolve most substances except for waxy stains.

# Put a few drops of vinegar in pasta as it boils, the starch is cut. This makes the pasta less sticky.

# To clean grout spray straight white vinegar on to the grout and let sit for at least 10 minutes, then scrub with a tooth brush.

# When baking, if you are short of eggs substitute 1 tablespoon of white vinegar per egg.

# When you "let out" hems on children's clothes such as skirts, dresses etc., usually there is a white mark where the cloth was turned up. Warm up your iron, and with an old toothbrush dipped in a little vinegar diluted with small amount of water, scrub the mark and press. It usually comes right out, if not, then repeat.

# To eliminate cat litter box odors, When you clean the litter box, rinse it out and pour about 1/2 inch of white vinegar in the box. Let it stand for 20 minutes or so, then swish it around, rinse with cold water, and dry the box. The acid in the vinegar neutralizes the ammonia smell.

# Taking a little bit of vinegar with or just before meals isolates the fat in food and it passes through your system.

# Use a splash of vinegar when preparing rice. 1c rice, 2c water, a splash of vinegar. Bring to a boil then cover and simmer 20 minutes, uncover and fluff with a fork. The vinegar cuts the starch and the rice is not gummy.

# Nail polish will go on smoother, and stay longer if you clean your finger nails with white vinegar before applying nail polish.

# To avoid dark towels or sheets from fading, add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the washing machine.

# Use a paste of vinegar and baking soda to clean the sole plate of your iron.

# Sprinkle on hot chips …….. Hehehehehe sorry couldn’t resist.

Just read this one today:
Put straight vinegar in a squirt gun and use it as bug killer. Give bugs a good squirt and it is supposed to kill them. It's worth a try!

Put apple cider vinegar in a bowl with a drop of soap to kill fruitflies. It really works well.

I use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and rubbing alcohol to clean windows, while it smells funny, it is the BEST and totally streak free, works well on that gunk on the inside of car windows.

I just used a combination of vinegar and baking soda to clean out a couple of vases that were filthy. I can't reach into them to get to the bottom, so I put some baking soda in, added vinegar until it "volcanoed" out of the top, swished it around for a few seconds, and then rinsed. So easy and they look great!

Well, I already posted this on another thread, but thought it might fit better in this one so here goes:

One way I stretch fabric softener is to take an empty fabric softener bottle, fill it 3/4 full of plain white vinegar and fill the rest up with new full strength fabric softener. Clothes are just as soft, and still have the softener smell.

Vinegar is a great fabric softener all on its own, but I really like the smell of Downy, etc.

Apple Cider Vinegar (the unpasturized kind) is supposed to have health benefits, perhaps weight loss? lol
