I do not like to use processed, pre-packaged foods and I avoid them as much as I possibly can so when I found a recipe for Homemade Bisquick I was thrilled! Almost all of my baking and cooking is done from scratch but once in awhile I need to whip up a quick batch of pancakes for an easy breakfast or need last-minute biscuits. I love the ease of use of the regular Bisquick but I don’t love all of the ingredients that are in it. A rule of thumb, if you can’t pronounce it, don’t buy it! With this Homemade Bisquick mix I know exactly what’s in it and I can make it as healthy as I want. Organic, high-quality ingredients are always recommended but definitely not necessary. Organic or not, this recipe will be much healthier for you than the store-bought stuff.
Take a few minutes to whip up a batch of this homemade mix and you’ll be set for awhile. It’s simple to make and only requires a few basic ingredients and a pastry cutter or food processor.
- 6 c. all purpose flour
- 3 Tablespoons baking powder
- ½ Tablespoon salt
- ½ c. butter (if you've never tried Kerrygold Irish Butter you need to!)
- Whisk the first 3 ingredients together.
- Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or a food processor.
- Store in an airtight container.
Storing your homemade mix in an airtight container (find some HERE) will help it last for 4 months or more. And there’s no need to refrigerate. If you do want to make a large batch ahead of time that will last for awhile just make as normal then store in the freezer!
To use, simply replace the store-bought mix in your favorite Bisquick or baking mix recipes with your Homemade Bisquick and make as normal!
