Understanding Extra Care Bucks (ECB)

If you’re new to CVS and don’t have any ECB from a previous shopping trip to use on the first transaction then the amount you pay will be your “seed money”. “Seed money” is the money you pay out of pocket to get your first Extra Care Bucks (ECB) to use on future purchases.

With this scenario we will be getting $40.13 in product for $11.16+ any applicable sales tax with $1.99 in ECB to use next week. That’s a savings of about 70%!

Last week we ended up with $3.00 in ECB which I will incorporate into this week’s scenario.

Remember, you don’t have to do all the transactions in one day or even at the same store.

Transaction #1:

Buy 4 Glade Expressions Mist Starter Kits $5.29 (my CVS)
Subtotal: $21.16
Use (4) $2.00/1 Glade Expressions printable
Use $3.00 ECB from last week
Final price: pay $10.16 + get $10 ECB

Buy 2 Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaners 16-20 oz. 2/$7.00
Buy 2 Windex 22-32 oz. 2/$7.00
Subtotal: $14.00
Use $2.00/2 Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Product SS 3-17 (exp. 4-28)
OR use $1.00 off 2 Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom products
Use $1.00/2 Windex SS 3-17 (exp. 4-28)
OR use $1.00 off any TWO Windex products
Use $10.00 ECB from transaction #1
Final price: pay $1.00 + get $4 ECB

Transaction #3

Buy Paas Egg Coloring Kit $1.99
Buy Mitchum/Lady Mitchum Deodorant $1.99
Buy Coke 2-liter .99
Subtotal: $4.97
Use .25/1 Coke 2-liter – scanner coupon
Use $1.00/1 Mitchum/Lady Mitchum SS 2-10 (exp. 3-17)
OR $1.00 off Mitchum or Mitchum for Women product
Use $4.00 ECB from Transaction #2
Final price: pay ZERO (+ tax) + get $1.99 ECB (Paas)

This scenario is getting $40.13 worth of product for $9.17 (+tax) after ECB!

The math is a little off, the net cost of all three transactions should be $12.89 instead of $9.89. I think you just forgot to account for the $3 ecb in your first transaction. It’s still a good deal though. Thanks!

Hi Christy….I always use the ECB from the previous week in the first scenario (if you’ll take a peek at the paragraphs before the scenarios). These scenarios are for people who want to follow week to week and roll their ECB from week to week. That’s why I subtract it from the total. I actually miss added the last scenario and it’s even less LOL! It should be free after coupons and ECB ….must have been sleepy last night when I was adding 🙂
