For the longest time I just thought all cakes came from a box. I thought it was near impossible to actually make one from scratch. Little did I know that it really wasn't all that hard!So skip the box and Give this Chocolate Cake recipe a try!
Ingredients

1 1/2 cups flour

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa

1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 cup milk
-
2 large eggs
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 2 (9-inch) round pans.
- Into a large mixing bowl sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
- Add the shortening and milk then beat 2 minutes on medium speed. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
- Beat in eggs and vanilla 2 more minutes.
- Pour batter into floured pans and bake 35 to 40 minutes until a cake tester/toothpick comes out clean from center.
- Cool in pans on wire rack 10 - 15 minutes then turn out and cool completely on wire racks - right side up - before frosting.
