On September 23, 2017, museums across the nation will adopt the policy of the Smithsonian, opening their doors for free to visitors with a Museum Day Live ticket. Each ticket grants free admission to the ticket holder plus a guest. Click here for a full list of museums and download a ticket. You can search by zip code or location.
In central Oklahoma, participating museums include:
- The Sam Noble Museum of Natural History
- The Fred Jones Museum of Art
- Oklahoma History Center
- Oklahoma Hall of Fame at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum

This year, Museum Day Live! is partnering with Microsoft to create special interactive lesson plans using Minecraft: Education Edition. Participating museums can download the lesson plans to enhance the Museum Day Live! experience at their facility. The Minecraft: Education Edition extensions are based on Smithsonian materials and are available on the Museum Day Live! Website.
Following the event, Microsoft will provide schools with access to the Minecraft: Education Edition extensions.
