Homemade Bisquick and How to Use It

This Homemade Bisquick is so great to have on hand. I find it’s much cheaper and you know exactly what’s in it.

I don’t like using processed, pre-packaged foods and I avoid them as much as I possibly can so when I found a recipe for Homemade Bisquick I was thrilled! Almost all of my baking and cooking is done from scratch but once in awhile I need to whip up a quick batch of pancakes for an easy breakfast or need last-minute biscuits.  I love the ease of use of the regular Bisquick but I don’t love all of the ingredients that are in it.  

A rule of thumb, if you can’t pronounce it, don’t buy it!  With this Homemade Bisquick mix I know exactly what’s in it and I can make it as healthy as I want.  Organic, high-quality ingredients are always recommended but definitely not necessary.  Organic or not, this recipe will be much healthier for you than the store-bought stuff.

Take a few minutes to whip up a batch of this homemade mix and you’ll be set for awhile.  It’s simple to make and only requires a few basic ingredients and  a pastry cutter or food processor.

Homemade Bisquick

This Homemade Bisquick is perfect for making waffles, pancakes and more.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, if you've never tried Kerrygold Irish Butter you need to!

Instructions

  1. Whisk the first 3 ingredients together.
  2. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or a food processor.
  3. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

Yield: Makes approximately 6 cups of mix, or enough for three sets of 12 pancakes.

Notes on Refrigeration:

Storing your homemade mix in an airtight container (find some HERE) will help it last for 4 months or more.  And there’s no need to refrigerate.  If you do want to make a large batch ahead of time that will last for awhile just make as normal then store in the freezer! Be sure to use real butter, not margarine, in this recipe.

If you’re used to refrigerating anything containing butter, make sure you seal your Homemade Bisquick very well. Otherwise it can absorb the flavors of other foods in the fridge.

To use, simply replace the store-bought mix in your favorite Bisquick or baking mix recipes with your Homemade Bisquick and make as normal! Check out our other recipes.

HO W TO USE HOMEMADE BISQUICK:

TO MAKE PANCAKES:

  • 2 cups Homemade Bisquick
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 2 Eggs

TO MAKE WAFFLES:

  • 2 cups Homemade Bisquick
  • 1 1/3 Cup Milk
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1tbs vegetable oil

TO MAKE BISCUITS:

  • 2 1/4 cups Homemade Bisquick
  • 1/3 Cup Butter Milk
  • 6 tbsp butter
