  1. I’m a tad confused by the “free” status of many of the items at Target. I have tried your approach for several items that would have been “free”. Every time the cashier rings it up and then says the coupon is for too much and Target would owe me money, so I can’t use the coupon. For instance, in the example above the item cost $3.59. Using your $3 Target coupon, the price comes down to 0.59. My cashier says I can’t use the 0.75 coupon because THEY would owe me money in that case. I tell them they need to only use the 0.59 of the .75 coupon so no money is owed to me. They don’t buy it. What’s a gal to do in that situation or am I completely misunderstanding the “Free” in these situations? Any help welcome. Thanks.

    1. Kenna, first of all let me say I’m sorry for your trouble. Most Targets have the newer registers that just automatically lower the price of the coupon to the price of the item. That’s what my Target did today when I bought the Secret Clinical, Tide & Aquafresh. But when you don’t have that luxury it can be difficult because cashiers are not trained properly on how to deal with coupons over the price of the item. They are supposed to adjust down the amount of the coupon to the price of the item and write that price on the coupon. In other words they would take the $3.00 coupon off then adjust the $.75 off coupon down to $.59 and write $.59 on the coupon. It states in the Target coupon policy that any coupon over the price of the item will be adjusted down. It’s very frustrating when employees don’t know their own coupon policy. You can go here and print off Target’s policy and take it with you to the store : . If you have an iPhone or other internet accessible device I would bring the website up and show it to them. It’s hard for them to argue when you show them their own coupon policy right from their site. Good Luck!
