Understanding Register Rewards (RR) *  Walgreens Coupon Policy

Before we get started I want to thank my cashier Tim for being so helpful and answering my questions very patiently today. Thanks Tim!!

I went to Walgreens to “practice” doing Balance Rewards deals to see for myself exactly how they work so I could share my experience with you, our readers.

Here's what I learned:

Q: Do you have to have the Balance Rewards card to get the sale prices, RR and Balance Rewards deals?
A. You have to have the card (or your phone number you signed up with) to get the Balance Rewards, RR and sale prices.  I was told by customer service when I called that you don't have to have a card if you don't want one 🙂

Q: Where do I sign up?
A: You can sign up online or in-store.

Q: How much are the points worth?
A: Each 1,000 points are worth $1.00

Q: What are Everyday Points?
A: In addition to earning points for specific purchases, you'll also earn 10 points (10¢ for every $1 you spend)

Q: Are there other ways to earn points?
A: Yes! Beauty Enthusiasts will earn 5,000 (=$5) for every $50 they spend in beauty products – learn more about that by clicking here.  You'll also earn points for making “healthy choices” you can see what's included by heading over here and scrolling down the page.

Q: How long does it take for the points to show up in my account?
A: Your points will be credited to your account immediately and will show up on your receipt so you can keep track. Pharmacy purchases may take up to 24 hours to credit.

Q: Is there a limit on how many of the SAME Balance Rewards deals I can do in one transaction?
A.  There is no limit as long as there is no limit posted in the ad or in store.  I was told you can buy more than the limit stated BUT you will only get Balance Rewards for the limit.

balance rewards receipt

You can see from my receipt, when I bought 2 of the Mitchum deodorants with a Balance Reward of 2,000 points each, I received 4,000 points! My receipt also let me know  I need 1,000 more points to reach a cash value of $5.00.

Just make sure you look for limits so that you won't buy something that won't earn you points.

Q: If I buy something that offers Balance Rewards and pay for it with Balance Rewards points will I earn points on what I bought?
A: YES! Walgreens just recently changed their policy to allow this 🙂 The only time you wouldn't is in the case of threshold purchases – for example earn 5,000 points when you spend $30.

Q: If I get a rain check for an item that offers points will I still get my points when I redeem it?
A: If you redeem the rain check the week the product is offered you'll get your points. When the week is over you'll get the sale price but no points.

Q: What if I have to return an item that gave me points or if I have to return something I bought with points?
A: If you return something that gave you points, the points will be deducted from your total. If you return something you bought with your points you won't get your points back but will get store credit.

Q: Is there a limit on how many points I can redeem in one transaction?
A: We've had yet another policy change – it's back to being able to redeem up to 50,000 points ($50) in a single transaction.

Q: Do points expire?
A: Yes, points expire on a 12 month rolling basis. In other words, you have a year to use any points you earn from the day you earned them.

If you have questions I haven't covered post them in the comments section & I'll do my best to search down the answer!

  1. I have two questions. If you get a rain check on an item that gives Balance Rewards, will you still get the BR when the item comes in? Also, if you have to take back an item that you received a BR for, will the BR be deducted from your balance? Thanks in advance.

      1. Thank you for listening. I have only one question. If you were unable to give your card or phone number for the reward points can you call and have them added after the purchase?

        1. Hi Lana, if you still have your receipt they may be able to help you. It wouldn’t hurt to try. Have your card handy as they will probably need your number. Let us know what happens 🙂

  2. Shelly, here’s the answer to your first question: If you get a raincheck it will only give you your points if you redeem it that week. After the week is over you’ll get the sale price but no points.

Question 2: This is a two parter lol!! If you return a product you got points for, you will lose the points. If you bring back an item you bought with points you won’t get your points back but will get store credit.

    1. Thank you for the answer. I purchased and used BR $5. Paying only 14.47 on my card. That being said the original amount being 19.47 I went to store with receipt with in 30 days to return an 9.99 item on this receipt and they told me that the $5 BR had to be returned to me as store credit and then 4.99 would go back on my debit card as return. With the amount of the receipt I should get the 9.99 back on my debit card. Forget the BR money, that would still be used for the remember balance on the receipt of 9.48 even with the 9.99 returned. To top it all off the return policy on the back of my receipt states:original receipt items will be refunded for the full price issued in the original method of payment..
Thank you for any info you would have.

      1. Hi Tina – anytime you pay for an item with BR points you get store credit when you return it. You’re saying the $9.99 item on your receipt wasn’t what you used the points to buy right? I’m thinking the reason they wouldn’t return your full purchase price is because they couldn’t tell by your receipt which item the BR points were actually used on. They had no way of knowing if the BR points were used to buy the $9.99 item or the $19.47 item. When you use points it goes towards your entire purchase at the time you use it and not one particular item. Hope this helps 🙂

  3. Do you know if Walgreen’s plans to phase out the register rewards now that they are using the balance reward card? Thanks

  4. I was disappointed today when at WAGS and he was ringing my stuff up, already had manu. coupons and when I went to give him my phone # for the Balance Rewards, he said it was too late that it had to be done at the beginning. How frustrating! I can go back and have them re-enter everything but what a waste of time.

    1. Heather it takes about 7-10 business days to get your card when you sign up online. I’m not sure they are issuing cards at the store, you may fill out the paperwork but still have to wait for them to mail it.

  5. How do you know how many points are on your card now? Can we look online for the balance. Also How do you go about redeeming the points? Do you just give them the card first & say I have this many points & I want to use it towards my purchase or what?

    Thanks,

    Adele

      1. Note that this has now changed as of August 2016. ALL POINTS expire on a 12-month rolling basis. This means there will never be any points on your account that are over one-year-old. This is a complete bummer, as many people are going to find it nearly impossible to reach the highest tier of points possible for the greatest points value possible. If you find this new rule not to your liking, I would suggest emailing Walgreens to voice your concerns on it.

  6. Walgreen’s often offers 2,000 points for a $10 purchase. Can the $10 total include tax, or does it have to be $10 BEFORE tax? The clerk made me throw in a pack of gum last time to make sure it was $10 AFTER tax.

  7. If I have more then 50,000 points will I keep accrueing them. Or does it stop. And does it go any higher then 50,000 or $50

    1. Yes you’ll keep accruing them but the most you can redeem is 50,000 at one time. I don’t believe it goes any higher that 50,000 as far as how much the points are worth.

  8. I have $50 worth of points at Walgreens so I was wondering if I may still earn the beauty bonus points from the in ad beauty coupon from this week if I use my saved points to pay for the items that would’ve gave me points using that coupon? I know I can’t earn regular points if I pay with points but I just wasn’t sure about the bonus beauty ones. I know I probably sound so confusing.

    1. Unfortunately, if you use points to buy anything that gives you points you won’t get them. You can use RR to buy points items and get your points but not using points to purchase them. Hope this helps 🙂

  9. So I recently picked up some photos I ordered online BUT I forgot to ask the cashier to scan the 5X points coupon they have this week. Would it be wrong of me to return the photos and purchase them again except this time I’ll ask them to scan the coupon?

    1. Hi Jenn,

Unless you’re planning on returning them and then immediately repurchasing them I don’t think it will work because they will dispose of the photos. Also, you’ll need to let the cashier know ahead of time what you are doing 🙂

  10. You’re explanation seems to be the closest to what I’m trying to find out, but doesn’t quite answer a question I have. If I have 40,000 pts ($50 or $1,25 per 1,000 pts) and I choose to use points on a trip that costs $20 would I use 18,000 pts ($20 or $1.11 per 1,000 pts)? It seems to maximize the value of your points you need to have a $50 Walgreens visit.

    1. Yes you are correct. The more points you have in your account the more they are worth. If you spend $20.00 worth of points then you’re back down to less value. The best scenario would be to wait until you have $50 worth of points and then use them all in one shopping trip 🙂

  11. Hi,
    It’s my b day month. Perk 10xs. Now I have the 10000. Bonus over 30 purchase. So if I purchase 30 of allowable items…do I get 10xs 10000? SO 100,000 points meaning $100?

    1. Hi Erickah, If you purchase $30 before any Walgreen store coupons you’ll earn 10,000 points worth $10.00. For your birthday points you’ll get 10x the points per dollar you spend. If you spend $30 you’ll earn 3,000. Both of the deals together will get you $13,000 points if used together on the same transaction. 🙂

  12. Hello. If I want to use 40,000 points for a $50.00 purchase. Will I still get my bonuses. Rewards printout from the cat. Plus get like the bonus points.

    1. Hi Tammy, yes you’ll get your points. You can use points to buy items and earn any points offered for the item. You can also use points to buy items and still earn any Register Rewards offered for buying the item 🙂

  13. I went to Walgreens made a purchase totaling $76.47 anyway because the store was busy the sales clerk overlooked scanning my 5x the points coupon. So my question is, is there a way that my points can still be added? I feel I deserve to have my points.

    1. Hi Theresa, the only way I know of that you might be able to get your points back is to call Walgreens customer service. Have your store card handy as they’ll need your number to add points to your account. Good luck!

    2. FYI – Per the info I found on their website Walgreens.com/Balance , you can get such “forgotten” points added, (and obtain your rewards balance available) by calling them at 855-255-0400. You will need your balance rewards member/card number. But you will also need PATIENCE as I have called 5 times and was told each time by the robo-voice that “the average wait time is 30 minutes.” UGH.

      1. Will they do this in the store with a receipt? Husband picked up my meds and they didn’t put the points on.
        Thanks,
        Cheryl

        1. Hi Cheryl,
In many cases prescription meds are excluded from earning points. I would take your receipt back to the store and talk with the pharmacy to find out what happened. 🙂

        1. Hi Shannen, yes that’s a given that you pay tax. That’s always the case when using coupons or store rewards. Some states do not charge sales tax, and the rates are different in those that do. That’s why we don’t include the tax in our final price when figuring deals 🙂

  14. I have 50k points now if I spend say $15 worth the points will I be able to get back up to 50k again and be able to use them? I am close to getting 5k for beauty products and have a offer in email if I spend $20 I get another 7k in points but if they only allow me 50,000 a year I can save at another store for a buck or two! So if I am only able to cash in $50 a year it makes no since to keep buying here! They say I am 4820 points from $55 so confused thank you!

    1. Hi Bill, you aren’t restricted to only 50,000 points per year, you just can’t spend more than $50 worth at any one time. You’ll be able to build back up to your 50,000. 🙂

  15. Lets say I have $50 in rewards points and I have $55 in items to purchase. Could I use all $50 of rewards points and then only pay $5 + tax? I have been wondering this for a while now.

  16. I have gone to Walgreens plenty and have used my phone number (because I didn’t want a card) to get yanno the sale deals and other things, but when I look onto my account, I haven’t been accredited any points at all. Any wonder as to why?

    1. Hi Autumn, make sure the phone number you’ve been using is the one you filled in when you signed up for the card. If it is, call customer service and see if they can pull up your account. They may be able to give you your points 🙂

    1. Hi Marylyn, unfortunately you can’t combine points from different cards to make a purchase. You also can’t take points earned on different cards and put them all on one card. Hope this helps 🙂

  17. I love the look on the walgreens clerk’s face when they try telling me about the points and I ask them if they can tell me my points balance from my receipt. When they see that I have nearly 200,000 points, I politely say, “Trust me, I’m a points warrior”. They’re response is slways “I’ve never seen that many points!”… my advice, never use them to save a few bucks if you don’t need to. If they tell you that you can use $5.00 in rewards, decline. Because the real savings happen when you save them up. Maybe I’ll use mine for Christmas time.

  18. My wife and I have over 25000 points which gives us $20.00 in rewards, we recently went to our local Walgreens and tried redeeming them when we went to checkout every item we had we were unable to purchase with our rewards card. Any help thank you

    1. Hi James, I’m not sure why you couldn’t redeem your points. Here are the following items that are excluded from purchase using points: Redemption dollars may not be used for the purchase of the following: dairy; alcohol; tobacco; contact lenses; stamps; phone/pre-paid/gift cards; money order/transfers;transportation passes; lottery tickets; charitable donations; prescriptions; pseudoephedrineor ephedrine products; immunizations, health tests or other healthcare items or services;Prescription Savings Club membership fee; clinic services.

If your purchases did not contain the above, I would contact customer service and make sure there isn’t something amiss with your card or account – good luck!

    1. Hi Curt, the points never expire as long as you shop at least once every 6 months at Walgreens. You don’t have to make a purchase using points, you just have to make a purchase using your Walgreeens card. 🙂

UPDATE: Walgreens has changed their policy – points will expire 12 months after they are earned 🙁

  19. Hi there – at one point I thought that when you redeemed your points that any leftover would be lost. In other words, say I have 23,000 points and redeem the $20. Will I lose those 3000 leftover points and start from 0 again?

    1. Hi Robin, It depends on how much your points are worth. The more you have the more they are worth. For example 18,000 points is actually worth $20. So if you have 23,000 points and spend $20.00 (cost 18,000) you should have 5,000 points left. Hope this makes sense 🙂

  20. In your article, you state:

“Q: How long does it take for the points to show up in my account?
A: Your points will be credited 3-5 days after your purchase but will show up on your receipt balance immediately so you can keep track.”

That is inaccurate according to the official Balance Rewards FAQ posted at: https://www.walgreens.com/topic/help/balance-rewards.jsp
“Q: When do points get posted to my Balance Rewards account?

A: In most cases, points will be posted to your account immediately after your purchase. For online and pharmacy orders, points may take up to 24 hours to be awarded due to account and legal verification.”

I just don’t want to see a blog inadvertently spreading inaccurate information. I’ve had customer service issues from people reading false second hand info on some random blog. Please use to above Walgreens link to fact check your articles and responses. I only found your blog from an unrelated Google search, but I figured I should help you and your readers out a little.

    1. Hi “Walgreens Employee” at the time this post was written, info was taken right from the Walgreens website and at that time it DID take 3-5 days to appear in your account. Thank you for alerting us to the change 🙂

  21. If I have 40,000 points and I want to redeem them in a single transaction for $50, does my transaction total have to be over $50 or can it be $48? Also do the balance rewards points pay for tax? Thank you.

    1. Hi Bob, you never have to use all your points unless what you’re purchasing is more than what you have available in points. It should cover your tax 🙂

  22. Hello. I just finished reading the terms and conditions of the balance rewards program and couldn’t find an answer to my question. It states that you can’t earn points on the portion paid for with store credit (understandable given store credit is given with certain returns). My question is does that policy also apply to using gift cards? They’re similar in how they work. I’d like to start using a gift card to lower my oop, but won’t if it stops me from earning points. Thanks 🙂

  23. I’ve noticed my digital coupons aren’t coming off anymore and coupons that I get points on for buying items aren’t working either help

    1. Hi Gwendolyn, after checking out look at your receipt – if it shows coupons not coming off ask the cashier about it right then. That way you can verify you bought the right item. Then if the cashier can’t fix it, you’ll need to contact Walgreens. Make sure the cashier is scanning your Walgreens card before anything is rung up 🙂

  24. I have a card that shows I have 2300 points and it works fine at the register. However, I cannot use these points because I cannot remember the information that I used when I signed up for the card.. Is there any solution to this problem?(I am not sure the e-mail showing is even the one I used in the beginning.

    1. Hi Jack, If your Walgreens card shows you have 2300 points you should be able to use them just by having the cashier scan your card when you purchase something. I’ve never had to give any info at Walgreens when using my points. Maybe I’m not understanding what you mean, if that’s the case then give me a little more info and I’ll see if I can answer better 🙂

    1. Hi Cindy, Walgreens will send you several emails letting you know when your next points (oldest) will expire. I’ve got points expiring Nov. 1st and I’ve received about 4 emails already. The only other thing you can do is call Walgreens customer service and ask them if they can look it up for you – you’ll need to have your card number handy. Hope this helps 🙂

  25. I bought 59 dollars things at Walgreen online store, and redeemed $50 points, it said successful to redeem. It supposed to just charge me 9 dollars, but it still charged me $59. Why?

    1. Hi Charles, I’m not sure why that happened, especially if it told you the points were successfully redeemed. I would check my point balance and if your points are gone, call Walgreens customer service. They can help you apply the points to your purchase. Hope this helps!

  26. I went into a store on Thursday and was told I had earned $10 in rewards. I went to use them today and the cashier said I had 0 rewards and 0 points. I had also purchased something earlier in the day…why aren’t my points loading to the card? I just noticed this…and I frequently shop in Walgreens and am a little annoyed that my points are not being tallied. I have missed out on alot!!! Please help.

    1. Hi Tanya, There are several reasons why this could happen. The best thing to do is contact customer service at Walgreens. They’ll be able to get inti your account and see what happened which is something we can’t do. We can tell you to always check your receipt before you leave the store. It will tell you if you’ve earned points to your account. If you buy something that’s supposed to earn you points and you don’t see it reflected on your receipt you can deal with it right then. Hope this helps 🙂

      1. Hello! I bought 119$ things on Walgreens.com and redeemed 50$ points. It was written that the procedure is successfully completed. But the amount that is charged is still 119$. Please, tell if something is wrong. Thank you!

        1. Hi Irina, I would call Walgreens customer service as they can get into your account and see what the problem is. Have your Walgreens card handy as they will need the number to check your account 🙂

    1. Hi Betty, you’ll need to contact customer service in order to get a new card, especially if you had and points earned on the old one. They won’t automatically transfer to the new one. 🙂

    1. Hi Sandy, Most likely it’s too late. The only thing you could do would be to return the items and get your money back, then re-purchase and use the coupon.

  27. Is there a certain amount of rewards that have to be on your card before you can use it. Say for instance if you have a dollar in rewards money can you automatically use it.

  28. I have a coupon from the register for 20X everyday points which expires April 27, 2018. Will this automatically be reflected on my purchase today..April 25..or did I have to give the actual coupon to the lady at the register?
    coupon 45774 20420 15146
    1725 8820 3949

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Shirley, Most likely it had a bar code on the coupon that the cashier needed to scan. I received a 20X coupon when I checked out and it had a bar code. If you’ve still got it, head to Walgreens and use it before it expires 🙂

  29. there’s a 10x everyday points when you spend $20 booster in the ad this week. Will I earn these points if I pay with points?

  30. Hi i have a question i added a bonus buy that offer 5000 points with the purchase of an item. The nice bacon jerky hickory smoked showed. I picked that one along with 5 other items 2 that included a 3000 point as well. I redeem 5000 points and it only gave me the 3000 points bit it did not give me the bonus buy points why? And what can i do to get them ?

    1. Hi Maria, I don’t have the ad in front of me so I’m not sure what the actual deal you were trying to do. You can earn points if pay with points UNLESS it’s a threshold deal. For example “Spend $20 and get 5,000 pts.” If Nice! bacon jerky has a points reward directly tied to it then you should have earn your points even if you paid with points. Just make sure you bought the right product and the right amount. If you did, contact customer service. Have your receipt and your Walgreens card handy when you do. Hope this helps 🙂

  31. can you Retrieve rewards account name or number with the receipt only.. Can’t remember number used and don’t have card

    1. Hi Lisa, you can call Walgreens customer service and they may be able to help you. They don’t put your account info on the receipts to prevent someone from getting your number etc. 🙂

  32. Hi, for the coupon 10,000 bonus Points when you spend $30.00 can I use that coupon more than 1 times? so that I could earn another 10,000 bonus points on my second transaction. Thanks in advance 🙂

      1. Can you use a spend $25.00 and get 7000 points that printed with your receipt and the coupon on the sales ad that says spend $30.00 get 10,000 points in the same transaction to get 17,000 points back?

        1. Hi Erica, You’d have to purchase $55 in order to earn the 17,000 points. You can’t use two threshold coupons (Spend $10 get 4,000 pts., spend $30 and get 10,000 pts.) on the same items. 🙂

  33. My questions are: Lets say I buy 2 items for $3 and each 2 items gives me 3000 points. There is no limit other than in stock product for transactions. So I buy 3 sets for $9 (gives me 9000 points) and then 1 more random item to get me to $10. Because this month when you spend $10 you get a bonus 4000 points. I redeem 10000 off my balance to pay for this hypothetical transaction. In my mind I should come out 3000 points ahead for each such transaction as none of the above items have a limit of use. Is this correct how am doing the math? I might owe a couple pennies in sales tax at most on each transaction, Then I just repeat this till the stock of said items are depleted, using my newly gained 10000 points of the 13000 in total to basically make free transactions? gaining 3000 points each time?

    1. Hi Chris, Remember when you use points with a threshold offer (Spend $10 get 4,000 points, spend $30 get 10,000 points etc.) you won’t earn the points if you pay with points. You only earn points when you pay with points on specific items like “buy 2 Dove and get 3,000 pts.”. Hope this helps 🙂

  34. Hi, I guess I’m not fully understanding this program. The App was showing that I had $53 in reward dollars available. I went and made a purchase of $22 so I decided to use some of my points. After I used a $20 reward for my purchase, I checked the app and it now says I only have $20 available whereas it should have been $33. Do you lose points by partially redeeming? If that’s true, I would have spent over $50 to use them up.

    1. Hi Jennifer, the more points you have the more they’re worth. For example, 10,000 points = $10 But if you have 18,000 points they’re worth $20 instead of $18. If you have 40,000 points that = $50. You must have had a little over 40,000 points in your account making it worth $53. When you redeemed 20,000 points it dropped you back down making them worth less. Hope this makes sense. You can go here for a more info: https://www.walgreens.com/topic/balancerewards/balance-program-details.jsp

  35. I know that rewards can not be used to purchase gift cards but I am just wondering if say I go to purchase a $50 gift card and also purchase $10 or more worth of other items in the same transaction am I able to use the $10 rewards on this purchase or do I need to do 2 separate transactions in order to use my rewards?

    1. Hi Calla, as long as you have enough purchases to cover the amount of points you want to redeem (in addition to the gift card) then you can do everything in one transaction. 🙂

  36. So is it 50,000 or 50PTs I can redeem per transaction or 5000 or $5? It’s not clear. I also was told that I could redeem any amt per transaction. I usually save up my points so I can redeem a large amt whe purchasing something expensive. Tell me why I can only use $5 per transaction? That’s not a good deal, if I’m going to regularly shop and spend the amts of money that I do, I should get to spend it when I need it most

    1. Hi Kimberly, Walgreens recently changed the rules to allow only 5,000 points (=$5) per transaction. We don’t have privy to the reason they made this decision. I agree with you, we should be able to use as many points as we want. Unfortunately, Walgreens doesn’t agree 🙁

  37. If i pay for 2 items 21.53 due to using 5000 points will i just get back the 21.53 or 21.53 plus 5 due to points?

  38. Hello!

Let’s say I have spend $20+ and get 5000 bonus points offer. If I spend $25 initially, but I decided to return a product I’m not satisfied with and it’s worth $6. Will I lose the bonus points if I decide to return it?

    1. Hi Sabrina,

Anytime you earn points for buying an item and then return it, you’ll lose the points. Even if you spend $20 to earn 5,000, returning any part of your purchase will cause you to lose the 5,000 points. If you buy other items in the same transaction that have nothing to do with earning your points, you can return those and still keep your points. Hope this helps 🙂

        1. Hi Claudia, I wasn’t sure what you meant but let me see if I can answer your question. All Walgreens digital coupons can be used immediately after clipping them to your card. They will state when they expire. The “thank you” bonus digital coupons appear randomly – we never know when they’ll pop up. I hope this helps. 39. I read in the above comments that the Balance Rewards can cover tax. So I thought if I bought an item for $3.99+40cents tax = $4.39, I could redeem 5000 pts for $5 off and just forfeit the $0.61.

However, when I try to order something on the Walgreens website, it’s only letting me redeem 3000 pts for $3 off. I click on Learn More and it says
Your order total must be greater than your reward
Points can only be redeemed in the tiers listed above, and the reward cannot be more than your order total.

So has something changed so that the points can no longer cover tax?

    1. Hi Lim,

Walgreens policy doesn’t allow you to allow you to use more points than what your total order is. I’ve always had to pay tax when using points – lots of states do not have sales tax so that may be what they are commenting on. They have recently changed their policy to only allow a maximum of 5,000 points (=$5) to be redeemed at one time. You can redeem them in increments of $1, $3, and $5. Hope this helps 🙂

      1. The Walgreens website is very strange. Sometimes it will let me redeem 3000 pts for $3 off and sometimes 4000 pts for $4 off for the $3.75 item (before tax). Maybe something to do with removing the item from the cart, logging in & out, and re-adding the items to the cart.

I can now get it to redeem 4000 pts to cover the tax partially but still can’t get it to let me redeem 5000 pts to cover the tax fully. The website is frustrating!

        Order Summary
        Item subtotal:$3.75
        Shipping:FREE
        Sales Tax:$0.38
        Rewards redeemed:-$4.00
        4,000 Points
        Total:$0.13

        1. Just tried it in-store, and it matches the website. They let me redeem 4000 pts for $4 off my $3.75 items before tax. So the pts covered some of the tax and I only owed $0.13. I think the total including tax must be greater than 0 after rewards, no getting the items for free like Shopyourway rewards.

  40. If the advertisement says “Buy 2 get 5,000 points”, is there a limit to how many times I can do this transaction and still keep getting the bonus 5,000 points each transaction?

    1. Hi Victoria, as long as there is no limit specified in the ad there is no limit to how many times you can earn points in a transaction. For example, in the “buy 2, get 5,000 points” you could buy 6 in the same transaction and get 15,000 points . Hope this helps 🙂

  41. If there is a bonus points offer, buy two get 5000 bp, do you have to buy the two in one transaction? Or can you split the two up in two different transactions and be credited after the second purchase?

    1. Hi Marcy, The items must be bought in the same transaction to earn points. You can also buy multiples in the same transaction and earn points. For example if it’s “buy 2 and get 5,000 points” you can buy 4 and get 10,000 points. Hope this helps 🙂

    1. Hi Ashley, I’m not sure your rewards number is on your receipt but you can just enter the phone number you signed up with at the register if you don’t have your card. If you need your card for something other than to make a purchase contact customer service and they may be able to help you 🙂

  42. I have question here regarding redeeming points. When you redeem points, do they deduct the redeemed points from the oldest points you earned? I’m just afraid I’m losing points here. I can’t zero it out because I keep earning points more than I redeemed. It just accumulates

    1. Hi Liza, your points only expire one year after you earn them. So every time you earn points they last for a year from the exact day you earned them. Your card keeps track of when you earn them and will only delete unused points that are 1 year old. Hope this makes sense. If not don’t hesitate to ask more questions 🙂

  43. Hi. I recently did an all digital scenario online in order to get the 20k points for spending $60. My estimated points were correct until I went to checkout, then they went away. Have you ever had this happen? I wonder if I check out if customer service would still award the points. I’m using lots of Wags coupons, but I made sure the amount is over $60 after IVC’s. I even added another $20 just to see if that would help, but points still disappeared at checkout.

    1. Hi Dallas, let me make sure I understand you correctly. You spent $60 online after digital coupons to get the 20K points and it showed you earning them but when you checked out they disappeared? When ordering online, you don’t get the points awarded until your order ships. When it ships check your balance and they should be there. They don’t always show your points at checkout as being awarded in case there’s a problem with the order or it gets cancelled for some reason. If you don’t see them in a day or so after your order has shipped then contact customer service – have your Walgreens card number and receipt handy. Hope this helps 🙂

  44. I earned a $5.00 register reward for buying an item. What happens to the register reward if I return that item? Is the answer different if I have already spent the reward?

    1. Hi Sandi, Register Rewards must be forfeited if the qualifying merchandise is returned. If you’ve already spent them they may deduct the amount from the your cash back or from the value of your store credit. Hope this helps. 🙂

  45. How much is it to get a new Walgreens Balance Rewards card, mine expired last month, now I need a new card

  46. If I make an online purchase that’s supposed to give back a register reward, how will I receive it? When I pick the order up in store or in points after I make the online purchase? Or nothing at all?

  47. Hi I went shopping at Walgreens today, my total was $108.00, and I used the coupon where you get $7.00 in points w purchase of $30.00 or more. I do the digital receipts and check my email as soon as I get home to make sure I get the $7.00 in points…MUCH to my surprise, it said I earned $17.00 in points! When I went and looked it up through the app it broke it down w my $7.00 coupon and an additional 10.00 for what’s labeled as “ RND Tiered Booster” I’ve looked everywhere on Walgreens website and Google searches and can’t find a thing about it. I’m def not complaining-I’m just trying to figure out why I got the extra $10.00. I thought I would ask here as you seem very knowledgeable about how the points work. I also looked hack at a few other digital receipts and there’s one for $5.00 also! ( sorry, I just realized I used the “dollar amount” for the points-$10.00 meaning 10,000 points ect Thanks in advance for any info you may have on this.

  48. Do rewards show on receipts with just prescription items? We asked if the rewards number was applied to the transaction and the lady said yes. On the receipt it has a paragraph about …you could have earned an additional Walgreens cash rewards …

    Thank you
