If you're planning a vacation soon, don't book that flight before you see this! See my Top 5 Ways to Save on Airfare!
1. Use discount searching sites:
Sites like CheapOAir.com will help you do your research! It may be stressful looking over multiple websites and flights, but it will pay off with seeing savings on your ticket price. If looking at airfare prices online just isn't for you, join Scott's Cheap Flights ahead of time and you can have discounted airfare emails sent right to your inbox. Hiring a travel agent is another idea, but keep in mind that will cost additional money.
2. Find the best time to book your flight:
is a website that will calculate air fare costs for you, whether its month to month or when to purchase your actual ticket. One rule of thumb is to buy in-country flight tickets 2-3 weeks before your trip. Also purchase tickets on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and opt for early morning flights as these are cheaper.
3. Compare prices between Airports:
We live in the Oklahoma City metro area. Although we have a world airport, it's about 2.5-3 hours drive to the much larger DFW airport. Sometimes airfare going out of DFW is hundreds less than flying out of my closest airport! So if you live within driving distance of a second airport, be sure to compare airfare from each departure location.
4. Check rates on the Airline Websites:
, JetBlue, and Allegiant are a few Airlines which do not work with the larger third party travel websites. So in order not to miss out on any potential deals, do your research and check these websites directly before you book. Spirit Airlines also offers low cost rates.
And one more savvy tip- for budget airline tickets, be aware of any extra baggage or ticket fees that may apply.
5. Follow LifesTwoShort on Facebook:
As a travel blogger we see some great deals time to time and work hard to pass those savings tips on to readers. Be sure to follow our travel page LifesTwoShort on Facebook! Of course comment and comment or “like” a post now and then to stay updated and to keep seeing our posts in your news feed!
And lastly, Read Fine Print: If the ticket price sounds too good to be true, it just might be! Taking the time to read the fine print is a good travel tip in general… Don't stress, just take a few extra minutes to read all the terms, baggage fees, any applicable airline check-in instructions, and double check your flight for out of the ordinary layovers or flight times.
Information and all the fine print on airfare should be posted online, but if you are concerned with something, also give the airline a call!
Then go for it, and congrats on scoring a great deal!! 😉
