Believe-In-Yourself-Picture-QuoteMany of you know that I lost my job in June and I took the leap of Faith to try to stay at home and make this blog full time for me. At the same time we found out that my daughter was diagnosed with Anklyosing Spondylitis the same disease my husband also has. The decision was pretty scary but also necessary. You see I was missing all of their DR appointments which was not good because I was feeling helpless and clueless on what was going on health wise. Now let's fast forward to what this is all about………….

I am the type of person who always tries to think of others first. I am also pretty good and judging myself and making myself feel guilty when there is nothing to be guilty about.  I have a pretty soft heart and sometimes that soft heart can bite me in the butt. (Yes giggle I said butt) You see I have a tendency to go out of my way to help people even when my own life suffers and people are pretty good about guilting me into thinking I have to do things a certain way.

The hardest thing I have struggled with is charging for my coupon classes.  We have always done it for free. I would spend hours of planning, taking my time away from my family, leaving my teenage daughter to stay home to make sure my husband didn't need anything and driving all over town and using up our gas money for the week.  Sometimes we might even book up a class and because it was free people would think it wasn't important to let us know they were not coming and just not show up because….. after all it was free, they didn't pay for it. There was no commitment for it. Not only that, but my mother who is on disability was also doing the same thing and believe me her car is not the best. She also has a soft heart and felt guilty about charging as well. I wish she could see what I see in her and what a dear friend saw in me.

My friend Sarah Roe (You may know her as Money Saving Queen but she no longer blogs there) as been such an encouragement in my life, more than she probably even knows. She told me Melissa, your time is worth something and people will start believing in you when you believe in yourself. Why on earth are you selling yourself short and why on earth are you stressing yourself out about this. What you are teaching has value and worth. When people leave your class they are going to go away with information that is going to help them for the rest of their life. Just think about how much money these people are going to save. Surely they value your time enough to pay a small fee to save them 100's of dollars. She also told me something that her old Pastor told her, Melissa…. people don't put a value on FREE.

So here it goes, we are now going to be charging for our classes. We have been so grateful to the organizations who have already presented us with a small monetary donation at some of our classes as a thank you for our time even when we did not ask for it.

Will still offer FREE coupon classes at Buy For Less once a month that you can attend as well. Book the Queen Today!

P.S. Sarah Roe no longer blogs for Money Saving Queen, but you can find her new blog here: Peace, Love and Sarah!

  2. I am like you, and also have a difficult time “charging” for my time, dedication… Ultimately, self worth. I always felt “badly” about it… Even in my job search presently. One thing I’m learning, as you have already done.. Is taking that leap of faith, and maintaining that faith. I believe we are fair and honest about giving our best. So.. No more hesitation, and do what you do so incredibly well! God bless!
