Great for Snacking!
Does every cook have the same irritating (and if I’m honest at the same time, just a little endearing) problem when they’re putting together holiday meals?
Little (and big) people coming in to take tastes and steal bites of what smells so good! So good, in fact, that they somehow lose all sense of control over their own hands!
Their fingers somehow take on a mind of their own as they reach for just ONE more …. You watch as your work disappears before you even get your meal on the table! One by one they’re gone- deviled eggs, sausage balls, stuffed olives, ETC! ETC! ETC! And that’s not even mentioning the quickly depleting dessert table.
The candies, cookies, mini pies, chocolate covered pretzels, and my oh so high peaked meringue pies that have had their perfect peaks viciously severed! My poor pies! I know they do this just to spite me! (Yes, we have an entire table for our desserts!)
The only way I’ve been able to combat this, {and I do say combat, as my bunch seems to go the extra mile with forming tactical alliances where they Plot, Distract, Divert, Intersect, Capture the goods, Run for safety, and Divide the spoils!} is to put out a tasty and tempting snack that is worthy enough to stop them in their tracks.
All in the hope they won’t want to run tactical ops in my kitchen! This time, I’m putting out this Festive Cranberry Orange Chex Mix! It’s full of flavor with the right combination of sweet and salty! After my test batch came out so good I had to share! I would describe it as: dangerously delicious! Because it’s super addictive!
My favorite part is that this is so versatile. I made it the way I love it, but you can switch it up and tailor it for your family. Change the pecans for almonds or walnuts. Change the cranberries for golden raisins. Try using Vanilla or Cinnamon Chex Cereal too! I have to say though..my way is AMAZING!
Hard to Resist!
While I don’t kid myself into believing that a yummy mix in the living room will keep my not so ninja family members out of my kitchen; I have no doubts I’ll be watching this disappear off the table in the kitchen where they’ll think I’m saving it for later!
This is when I’ll sit back and laugh a silent victorious laugh. Most of my deviled eggs and sausage balls will remain safe! I openly acknowledge there is no hope for the peaks on my meringue pies…
OH! I used pumpkin pie spice to season this! It perfectly combines the subtle fall flavors without any one flavor becoming overwhelming. Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice! If you’re a cinnamon lover, by all means, knock yourself out by switching it up with Cinnamon Chex Cereal!
