This is a perfect time for beginners or to take someone out that's never fished before. It's fun – some of my happiest memories are going fishing with my grandparents. After Melissa came along, and was old enough, she tagged along too.

The City of Oklahoma City offers FREE fishing on the first Saturday of each month thru February 23, 2023. No city permit is required, however a State license is for anyone 16 and older.
The official free fishing days in Oklahoma is the first week of June (4th & 5th) 2022. On these days, anglers of all ages can fish in Lake Hefner, Lake Overholser, Lake Stanley Draper, and elsewhere in Oklahoma City without having to buy a City fishing permit or state fishing license. The free days are sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
