My husband likes onions and I'm not a huge fan, but it seems like whenever he eats them I can smell them on his breath for the rest of the day! Here's a tip to to keep the crunch and flavor of raw red onions but avoid the strong aftertaste. This tip will also sweeten them and make them crisp.

All you need to is after you slice the red onions give them a nice ice water bath. Let them soak for at least 10 minutes but I would recommend 20-30. The sulfur compounds that give the onions the harsh flavor will dilute in the water. After they are done soaking drain them and use them in your favorite recipe.
