I'm so excited about this recipe! I've finally found the perfect Slow Cooker Mac & Cheese recipe! The fact that it saves me time and energy costs by cooking in my slow cooker is a purely delightful bonus. I've searched for years, and each time I've tried a new recipe it's ended in disappointment and ultimately wasted time and money. Traditional cream sauces just don't work in a slow cooker, but I'm so glad I never gave up! With this Slow Cooker Mac and Cheese those days are passed! Goodbye curdled mishaps, and my orange and blue boxes will be saved for quick lunches because this warm and creamy ultimate mouthful of comfort is all you'll want when it comes to mac and cheese! Your only problem with making mac and cheese is going to be knowing you will won't want to stop eating it.
This Slow Cooker Mac and Cheese definitely doesn't last long at our house, and I'll tell you I've seen my kids and my friends' kids add plenty of toppings to their mac and cheese. You're only limited here by your imagination! Consider adding: Bacon, Bar-B-Que sauce, ketchup, hot sauce, sour cream, broccoli, green onions, hamburger meat, hot dogs, polish sausage, ham, even grilled chicken. I'm already thinking this is a must this coming holiday season as I know it will be perfect for the day after thanksgiving with leftover ham and turkey!
Slow Cooker Mac & Cheese Recipe
This is the perfect comfort food, and all prepared in the slow cooker! Travels well!
Ingredients
- 16 ounces cooked macaroni
- 16 ounces Monterrey Jack cheese, cubed
- 16 ounces Cheddar cheese, cubed
- 16 ounces Velvetta, cubed
- 1 stick of butter, cut into slices
- 16 ounces milk
- salt & pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Spray slow cooker lightly with cooking spray. Layer 1/3 of the macaroni in bottom. Layer half of cheese, butter, salt & pepper. Repeat, ending with last 1/3 of macaroni on top. Pour milk over mixture.
- Cook on low for about 4 hours and stir about mid-way.
- *A very small amount of the Mac & Cheese with stick to the edges and get browned. I LOVE this part - it's like the topping on a baked mac & cheese - so I scrape it off and stir it in. You can leave it on the edges if you prefer.
- *This will truly feed a large group, so if it's just the two of you, I'd halve the recipe. Just reduce the cooking time by half, too.
