Home Office Ideas for Two - With Workout Room

Using the Living Room as an Office

If you don't have a dedicated guest bedroom, consider setting up your home office nook in a small space like a den or unused corner of your living room. This will give you each some privacy and separate working areas. Ideally, work with the smaller desk and desk chair if one of the “office” setups is going into open spaces in the home. Make sure to keep the office clutter-free so it doesn't take over the whole space. To ensure enough space for your chair, desk, computer, and office supplies, start with the smallest desk that will work for your job. Typically, “writing desks” or dorm room sized computer desks will take up the least amount of space. These are often sleek and come in neutral colors, and can blend in to the overall space.

If your office setup is in the dining room, take advantage of any extra space or built in cabinet areas. Some “junk drawer” stashes can be repurposed as a great place for office supplies. The nice thing about having a work space in the central area of the home is that you do have many natural light sources, and you won't feel closed off from the rest of the home. The downside of this can be distractions, so if you have small children, pets, or lots of background noise you may have to adapt your office space to a bedroom or den area.

Shared Home Office Ideas

With a shared office, you do have less overall household distraction, but you may need desks that do not face each other, or a good desk divider to avoid small distractions throughout the day. A room divider such as a screen can also work for this purpose. Again, ensure you have enough room by choosing smaller scale furniture and desks. A built in desk or closet organizer can do double duty, especially if one desk is to be used as a craft or small project area.

Turning your Small Space into a Workout Room / Home Office

One of things I struggled with is wanting to turn my extra room into both a work area but also a place to exercise. Because I work on a computer all day I can become very sedentary. So I decided to create a home office that would double as a small gym.

If you're like me, and spend the majority of your day sitting at a desk. This can be harmful to your health, as sitting for long periods of time has been linked with obesity, heart disease, and other chronic conditions. I may just have found a solution for the both us. According to recent studies, using a standing desk and treadmill can improve your productivity and health by allowing you to move more throughout the day. Here are some reasons why using a standing desk and treadmill for your home office is beneficial.

If you're working at a standing desk, you can expect to burn an extra 50-100 calories per hour, as compared to sitting. And if you add a treadmill to your setup, you can easily double that number. This means that you can lose weight or prevent weight gain by using a standing desk and treadmill while working from home.

Another ideas would be to set up a yoga mat near your desk with a few light weights so that you can get a quick workout during your lunch break. Small workout gear options are a great option to have in your home office.

Furniture and Necessities for a Home Office

There are a few other items you may need in your home office to make it a functional home office as well as avoiding the room becoming a “catch-all” for other items.

1. Storage Space

File Cabinets can be a great way to organize your files and keep the clutter of the desk. If you get a four drawer cabinet, you can each take two drawers and put your names on the outside with some fun magnets. On the side of the file cabinets you can also purchase some magnets with inspirational quotes to help you get through the day.

2. Bulletin Board

Keep those notes and important messages in one spot to avoid cluttered workspaces. This will help you and your office mate as it's stressful to look at piles of disorganized paperwork.

3. Desks:

Let's talk about finding the right desk. Whether you need a small desk or a large desk, depends on if you have limited space or not. Another idea is to set up a dual desk or two desks facing each other . This can be a great way to stay connected while you're working, and it can also help you stay focused on your own work. If possible, try to get desks with adjustable heights so you can both be comfortable. I find this is the best desk to work with in a shared space.

4. Lighting

While desk lamps may be popular for their look, they can be a disadvantage if you are looking for small home office ideas. They take up valuable space and can become dust magnets! Think about overhead lighting, or simple designs for wall-mounted lights. Remember, you can purchase un-wired battery operated lights. These work by remote or by tapping the light. Cover with a wall-mounted light fixture and without wiring, and attach your light to the inside of it. These are great for highlighting art, bulletin boards and more.

5. Internet
It is essential to have great internet while working from home so you do not experience lagging connections so you can work efficiently. Hence, looking into the best internet providers will guarantee you can stay efficient.

Final Thoughts:

You may have to be creative when working with a small space for home office design ideas, especially if there is more than one person sharing the office. Make sure you choose small furniture elements and keep spaces simple to ensure your space is uncluttered, stress-free, and conducive to creativity! Thanks for Reading!
