OK the water finally went down and we were able to get back to the house with Daniel’s dad. There is nasty red mud all over everything. We will have to replace the carpet, all the flooring, sheet rock etc. We don’t know if the big screen TV works as we have to let it dry out. I think our furniture is probably ruined. We had just got a brand new Lazy Boy Recliner and New Ashley Sectional. I’m sure the xbox,Wii,blue ray player and surround sound are all toast. We had just bought my mom a brand new mattress at Mathis Brothers and that has been destroyed as well as Ryans mattress and bed and our King Size Bed.Things like clothes, video camera, dogs toys&bed, lawnmower, weed eater etc all gone. On a positive note we had some stuff in rubbermaid containers that had the lids off and they were BONE DRY they must have just floated? The wood on the kitchen table and piano are all messed up and nasty. Water got into our pantry and food is all ruined. Our brand new Fridgidaire Refrigerator is TOAST! We don’t know about the stove and dishwasher yet. Not sure about the freezer in the garage yet. Everything happened so fast and I really haven’t taken it all in. We probably won’t be able to see the real damage until it’s light outside again.

Daniel had to help a girl get out of her car that floated into our front yard, within minutes it had rose over her car windows. He got her out just in time. The neighbor was home alone with her 2yr old so Daniel carried him across the water while she grabbed him some clothes. It was crazy but neighbors were pulling out blankets and towels to pass around as everyone was cold from all the water. Fireman were rescuing people and their pets left and right.

All in all we are all safe but it may be months before we can move back in. The Lord is good and he has kept me at peace. I know he will take care of us.

  25. I'm nearly in tears for you and the others in your area, Melissa. I'm sooo thankful that you were safe! And, I'm grateful for your faith and trust in Jesus… especially during this time. May He continue to give you peace that passes all understanding.

  27. Glad to hear YOU are all OK…how scary and unreal it must seem — that was so fast for that water to rise like that — sounds like you have a wonderful community and obviously an amazing husband an support system there — praying for you all over the next few days and in your mission to restore your homes.

  28. What a terrible thing to happen to all of you and your neighbors. But like you said, God is good. I am thankful you all are safe. As you are well aware material things can be replaced. Thank you for the update on the flooding.

  29. I am saying a prayer for you and your Family, as well as everyone affected by these floods. i know it must be hard to see your home like that, but everything can be replaced – the important thing is that you and your Family is safe!

  30. WOW. I know the area you live in … I live close.. SO you lived in THAT AREA and did not have insurance??? Why would someone live in a home that cost that much with out having insurance?

  31. I know it doesnt seem like it at the moment…BUT This too shall pass. You will be back in your home before you know it and you and your family will be much stronger people for it! I applaud you for thinking of others first while you yourselves are devasted! Helping others is what will help you get through the next few days. I have been thru 2 floodings due to hurricane Rita and then Ike, and have lost much of things with massive damage to our home. I can honestly say, a year later, I do have some great memories while being displaced with my family of 6, and I have learned some great life lessons like…. things are things and true happiness is what you make it where ever you are as long as you have your family with you. Keep us updated and let us know of any major needs that we can contribute to for any and all involved in this. Love and Prayers!

  32. I'm so sorry for your troubles and will keep you, your family and your neighbors in my prayers.

  34. God must be smiling down at you crazy ladies. You deserved everything you got! Hope flames come next though…!

  35. Regular homeowner's insurance policies usually do not cover damage from floods. Flood insurance must often be obtained seprately and it is difficult and very expensive to get. A lot of the people affected by this flood probably didn't have any kind of flood insurance. =(

  36. Lenders are only required to provide flood insurance to those who live in a “flood plain” area. The areas that were flooded are not considered flood plains and the flood damage is considered an act of God and the insurance companies will not pay. Flood insurance (when you can even get it) is a very expensive separate policy. The last time it rained this much in such a short period of time was in the 1930's. People living in the area for almost 20 years stated it had never flooded before.
