How to make White Chocolate Covered Oreos

Place the melting chocolate or white candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds. I actually love using a chocolate melter which is basically a double boiler, but to achieve a smooth finish you can use whichever method you prefer. Stir the melting chocolate, then cook in 15 second intervals until melted and smooth. One kitchen tip I love to share is to use a glass bowl.

The melting wafers take some heat from the glass bowl and melt more evenly. I've actually noticed with some brands, I can reduce the time in the microwave by using a glass bowl! I use a fork after each of the short intervals in the microwave and just give it a quick stir to evenly melt the chocolate. If you use colored candy melts (especially dark reds and blues) the chocolate may take longer to melt.

To make your dipped cookies , just dip each Oreo into the melted chocolate, turning to coat both sides. Again I like to use a fork to take the coated Oreo out of the chocolate. It lets the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl, rather than being wasted on the baking sheet! Place each Oreo on a baking sheet or cookie sheet lined with wax paper or parchment paper. Let stand until coating is firm. It depends on your climate but it usually takes about 10-15 minutes until you see the chocolate set. The first ones will be setting up by the time you're finished with this step. Don't forget– they need sprinkles before they are completely set! This is what makes this easy dessert festive!

How To Add Valentines Twist To These White Chocolate Covered Oreos :

We used regular white candy melts for our chocolate coating. However, you can adapt this to your own taste and creativity! One idea is to tint some of your melted white chocolate pink using red food coloring gel. This will make it set up much more quickly, so be sure to re-melt in the microwave if needed. If you don't like white chocolate try using dark chocolate or milk chocolate. Wilton candy melts and Ghirardelli Chocolate Wafers come in a variety of flavors and colors. I like to find candy melts at Michael's and then of course you can find just about any other chocolate at the grocery store.

The other way to make these perfect for Valentine's Day is to use a variety of sprinkles. You can always find seasonal sprinkles at Walmart— or just make your own! I was in a pinch last time I needed sprinkles, so I ended up mixing a pink/purple mix of sprinkles with a Halloween mix. This gave an overall good mixture of colors (for a kid's birthday party)! Just using what you have is the perfect way to avoid extra trips to the store or not finding what you need! Another fun idea is to use different colors on each Oreo. If you have pink and red– do some of each!
