First, I want to start with a little bit about what valentines day is all about and where it came from. The history of valentines day goes back to when young men in England would give women written declarations of their feelings for them on February 14th each year. Women weren't allowed to vote, own property, make decisions, etc., so these men wanted their sweethearts to know how important they were in their lives and that they were loved. At some point in our US history this became an international holiday that we now celebrate every year.
Romantic Date Night Activities To Do at Home:
Home date night ideas don't have to be extravagant or expensive. There are plenty of ways to knock your sweetheart off their feet on a budget. We will share both some creative ideas as well as some budget friendly options to make it a fun night. Home date ideas can be fun and extra special on Valentine's Day with a little planning. Remember to put your phones down and stay off social media. Enjoy each others time and if getting together isn't possible how about doing a virtual date? Be as creative as you need to be with at home Valentine's Day ideas.
Don't forget it's ok to go all out and get dressed up for your Valentines date night at home. I found this cute dress on Amazon.
Instead of going to a movie theater, have a movie night in. Put your phones away and enjoy each other's company by watching a good movie together in the living room. We have a Top 20 Valentines Movie Watchlist already put together for you so you won't have to do any research yourself. I recommend picking out your favorite romantic movies early on and then checking which streaming services they are on for you to watch or rent.
Let's not forget the popcorn! You could serve it up simple with salt and better or get a little fancy and drizzle with chocolate and Valentine sprinkles. Another fun idea is a hot chocolate bar or sundae bar to go with your movie. And, did you know you can also rent movies from your local library as well?! This may depend on your location but it's a great free option. My husband and I love movie night so this is one of my favorite date night ideas.
Virtual Cooking Class:
Have a virtual cooking class for married couples where you teach your partner how to cook your favorite dish. You could also just do it together side-by-side or cook up different dishes and sample each other's. This one is fun because not only are you spending time with each other, but you might get bonus points if the food turns out amazing. Why not try to make some of your favorite recipes from your favorite restaurants at home. Maybe even recreate your first date. We will some romantic dinner ideas further down in this post. A fancy dinner doesn't have to be in a restaurant, this is one of our favorite at home Valentine's Day ideas because it sure beats the crowds!
At Home Wine Tasting:
One romantic idea is wine tasting. Grab some candles, get wine glasses & enjoy a special dinner or charcuterie. A glass of wine pairs well with charcuterie and dessert boards, and you can always make some Valentine's Day themed foods. Then have fun trying some new wines and pretending it's happy hour while also enjoying everything beautiful about this holiday.
If you aren't sure about what kinds of wines to try out, remember white wines are typically lighter and go with main dishes that include white meats. These include chicken/poultry, clams, shrimp or lobster, and as always just about any appetizers or charcuterie. Red wines pair well with heavier dishes such as beef, steaks, and surf n' turf plates. Don't forget the fondue pot to enjoy appetizers along with your wine. If you do not drink alcohol, sparkling grape juice, Rose and other beverages will hit the spot.
If none of the above options are for you, you could always do adult game night. There are lot's of two-player card games and if you want to take it to the next level you can add on the loser has remove an article clothing or you have to kiss a certain body part. Another idea for adults is to purchase an an adult card game online that sparks conversations and give you actions to do.
Another good idea is to take a romantic stroll in the moonlight, hold hands and give yourself some time to just talk to each other.
