Homemade Whipped Cream Recipe- From Scratch

It's always been a tradition of ours to spend Christmas with my family and Thanksgiving with my husband's family. Over the years, family has grown up, moved away, gotten married and started their own family traditions. Of course, more recently we've changed traditions and have had larger and smaller groups of family as years have gone by!

This Homemade Whipped Cream Recipe is one we first made when my daughter Taylor was 17. It's one of those recipes I got from our family– and those are my favorites! I actually had this post titled Nana's Whipped Cream Recipe since it's hers!

Don't you just love using family recipes, especially around the holidays. I hope you enjoy this one as much as we do. If you are eager to get your own kids in the kitchen this Thanksgiving– or any time really– give them a task to do. Whipping the cream into stiff (but soft!) peaks is a great one for your older child or teen helping in the kitchen. You could

How to Make Whipped Cream:

First, you DO need a mixer. You can use a KitchenAid stand mixer or a hand mixer. If you don't, it will take quite some time to fully beat the whipped cream. Secondly, make sure you're working with very cold whipped cream. The colder it is, the faster it seems to whip! I like to pop the carton in the freezer for about 5 minutes before starting the recipe. You can also refrigerate your bowl but I don't think it's entirely necessary.

Whip on a higher setting for 2-5 minutes, keeping a close eye on the whipped cream during the process. Do not overbeat, since it will start to have yellow flecks in it. At that point- you've whipped to long! It will turn to butter which will change the flavor and ruin the batch. For larger batches, you may need to whip the cream slightly longer. Don't walk away, however! 🙂

My tip is to stop after a few minutes and gently stir with a spatula. If the whipped cream keeps its shape, you're done!

Grab some coffee and enjoy making this recipe with family. It's all part of the fun! Enjoy!

What to Add Homemade Whipped Cream To:

This vegan whipped cream recipe is ideal for Pumpkin Pie or Cheesecakes. We have it linked to the Delicious Pumpkin Cheesecake recipe which is a no-nonsense, from scratch recipe that you can bake and enjoy without having to constantly worry about! The top is covered so if it's full of cracks– no one will know! 🙂

Happy “Holiday” cooking, from our family to yours!!
