Star Wars Lightsaber Pretzel Rods
The first time I saw lightsaber pretzel rods, it seemed like the most perfect idea. I mean, who doesn't love pretzels and Star Wars? The lightsabers just add that extra touch of awesome to this already amazing snack!

Lightsaber Pretzel Rods
Every child has dreamed of being a Jedi, defeating the Sith and getting away from their duties to go on an adventure. Now, you can let your children live that dream with this fun edible lightsaber.
These Pretzel Rods are a quick and easy party treat that won't even require turning on the oven! Just have your melted candy, a clean working surface, and M&M's for decorations! It's easier to use colored candy melts but we believe in using whatever you have first. We had a lot of left over white almond bark and food coloring leftover from another recipe so we thought it was silly to go out and buy more ingredients.

Icing and Candy Melts:
One thing that we did end up using and I would recommend is Cookie Icing in Black. This is WAY easier than trying to get a dark enough icing with adding food coloring. You can pick it up at the link above or find at Walmart –or any large grocery store.
At some point, adding food coloring does change the flavor. You can probably get your icing a dark gray if you're OK with it, but if you are set on colorful lightsabers with the traditional black handles, I would opt for picking up a small 7 oz bag of this icing. It will save a lot of time!
When applying your chocolate to your pretzel rods, we found using a silicone baster brush worked really well and was easy to get the chocolate smooth. We also used black cookie icing to make our handles and mini M&M's for the buttons. If you don't have any M&M's you could just dot green and orange icing (or any alternate color) over the black handle.

These were actually fairly quick to put together and I was able to make them in the middle of a busy weekend.
They are a sweet and salty treat, so they are perfect to balance out party appetizers. I always hesitate to add a lot of other sweets to my party menu if I am serving cake or cupcakes! This one is great for snacking in general.
If you are having a more socially distanced party or want to keep contact to a minimum, these can also be individually wrapped in cellophane cookie packages. I would say add two per package. You need a couple Jedi swords to battle with, right? 🙂

Color Options for Lightsaber Pretzel Rods
If you are staying true to the movies, you can use bright blue, red and green candy melts for your Lightsaber Pretzel Rods. As most of us can recall from the movies, the blue and green are usually Jedi lightsabers.
Just be aware, you might have to warn them the pretzels will crumble if someone's Lightsaber is destroyed during a battle. 🙂

Party Ideas:
I was excited to add this to our party foods lineup for May the Fourth Be With You party foods. These also make great birthday party food ideas, or a baby shower with the Mandalorian “Child” (Baby Yoda) theme. Your imagination is your limit!

Star Wars Lightsaber Pretzel Rods

Make these fun Lightsaber Pretzel Rods for your next Star Wars themed party!
Ingredients
- 30 Pretzel Rods
- 1 bag Green Candy Melts
- 1 Bag Blue Candy Melts
- 1 Bag Red Candy Melts
- Black Cookie Icing
- 1-2 oz Mini M&M's
Instructions
Melt Candy Melts in separate microwave safe glass bowls, according to package directions. Heat 30 seconds in microwave, stir and repeat in 30 second increments works in most microwaves. Do not overheat.
Line up pretzel rods on wax paper or silicone pan liner, separated into three groups.
With a pastry brush, apply melted candy to pretzel rods, covering about 3/4 of each rod. Coat liberally with the candy melts. To avoid mixing the candy melt colors, do not let the rods touch before they are dry.
Next, apply black cookie icing in a small section between the uncoated pretzel rod and the candy coating. It should be enough to place two Mini M&M's over the "handle" of the Lightsaber.
While the icing is still sticky, place M&M's on the black "handle" and allow to dry.
Candy melts should be hardened in about 15 minutes on a cool, flat surface. Serve immediately or place in an airtight container. (Do not let place in a warm environment since the candy coating will melt again).
Enjoy!
Notes
You can alternately use Vanilla almond bark with 1-2 drop of food coloring, however be aware that food coloring does not blend well with certain brands of Almond Bark, and your results may vary!
