Top Secrets to Saving at Hobby Lobby:
Hobby Lobby is where you can find good deals every time you step in the store. But if you don’t know the secrets and tricks, you still might be paying more than you should.
Know the Sales
There are certain items at Hobby Lobby that go on sale every other week. If you want something and it’s still regularly priced, wait one to two weeks. You can find all the current sales on the Weekly Ad, so no need for guessing before you head out the door.
At least once a month, Hobby Lobby marks many items down and they can be up to 50% off. The items that they consistently put on sale are:
- Scrapbook supplies
- Ribbons
- Candles
- Home accents
- Glassware
- Wood and metal decorations
- Florals
- Small decorative picture frames
While other stores mark down their holiday items the day after the holiday is over, Hobby Lobby usually marks theirs down a week before the holiday. So if you are a procrastinator you'll have a one week advantage on those sales.
Price Matching
They do honor competitors’ ads in-store(including Michaels and Joann's) if a specific price is listed and they stock the exact same item. However, they do not honor competitors’ “percent off” ads or coupons. They exclude all Holiday door buster ads, Cricut, Silhouette, Sizzix, Cuttlebug, Simplicity & McCall's patterns, clearance, and closeout items from this policy. Sorry, competitors’ ads are not honored online.
Shop the Clearance
Once you set foot inside the store, the first place you should head is the clearance aisle. Easter (pictured above) is gone of course, but they are always marking down new items.
Things you can find on clearance:
- Discontinued and damaged items with discounts up to 90 percent or more
- Past seasons
- Holiday items
- Floral
- Wall art
Most stores review their stock in the clearance aisle every six to eight weeks. Depending on the store, they often place an additional 40% off on the current price. Also if you see there is a lot of inventory of a particular item on clearance and it only has one clearance tag on it, you may want to wait. If Hobby Lobby is trying to move inventory they will typically lower their prices again a few days later.
Home Accents Events
Take advantage of Hobby Lobby’s Home Accents Events, which happens twice a year. During these events, Hobby Lobby marks down their home accent items starting around 50-60% off and continue dropping until they reach 90% off!
The first sale starts right after Christmas and items reach 90% off around February. The second event starts during Mother’s Day and the items will reach up to 90% off around June or July.
More about Damaged Items
If you find an item that is damaged and you still want to purchase it, you can ask for an additional discount. Even slightly damaged items can save you up to 15%.
One secret of mine is to actually find the furniture I love on their website, and then head over to see if I can find that piece in the clearance or damaged section for much less. Often, it's just a scrape or minor defect that will save you a large amount of money.
Hold On To Your Receipts
Hobby Lobby follows a 14-day price adjustment policy. If you purchase an item and it goes on sale within 14 days from the date of your purchase, you can get a price adjustment as long as you have the receipt.
Also, in the event you’re not happy with what you purchased, take the items and your receipt back to Hobby Lobby and they can either exchange, give you a store credit, or issue a refund as long as it’s within 90 days from the date of purchase. Always bring your online purchases in store for returns, trust me it's easier and don't forget to ask to see if they will refund the online shipping charge.
As a general rule, saving receipts is wise. If you don't have a place to keep them or just prefer not to have the paper receipts lying around, use a NeatReceipts scanner or upload into one of the receipt apps like ReceiptPal or ReceiptHog.
You can get bonuses and, even better, always have a picture of the receipt you can refer to if needed. We have used ReceiptPal for years!
Wedding Rentals
Left your wedding planning to the last minute? Don't worry, Hobby Lobby has you covered. The popular craft store now offers a rental service for everything from tables and chairs to decorations and tableware. Whether you're looking for a simple solution or want to go all out with a themed wedding, Hobby Lobby has the supplies you need. And best of all, their prices are surprisingly affordable. So if you're in a pinch, don't hesitate to head to your nearest Hobby Lobby for all your wedding rental needs.
Does Hobby Lobby Blow Up Balloons?
Hobby Lobby is a popular craft store chain in the United States, and it offers a wide variety of products for its customers. One popular item that Hobby Lobby sells are balloons. While the store does not actually blow up the balloons for its customers, it does sell a variety of balloon blowing machines. These machines range in price and features, but they all serve the same purpose – to help you blow up your own balloons quickly and easily. If you're looking for a place to buy balloons and have them blown up, Hobby Lobby is a great option.
Does Hobby Lobby take Paypal
While most stores only accept major credit cards and cash, Hobby Lobby also takes Paypal for online purchases. This makes it easier for customers who don't have a credit card or who prefer to use Paypal for their purchases. It's just one more way that Hobby Lobby makes shopping convenient and easy for their customers.
Happy Hobby Lobby Shopping and creating!

Readers should note that there is no Hobby Lobby policy about price adjusting within 14 days. What they allow is bringing back the item unused and in its original packaging and with the receipt within 14 days. The cashier will treat it as a return, then you can buy the item at the new sale price. That might be a great concept for people who stocks up on supplies for future crafting.
Thanks for the info Andy!
