DIY Floor Cleaners: Floor cleaners can be expensive and you never know what harsh chemicals are involved. I am constantly looking for saving solutions on cleaning supplies and last year we got all hardwood floors except for a few areas in the house. I was so excited when Rubbermaid came out with their new Reveal Spray Mop. It comes with a washable pad and you can refill it with whatever solution you want. This is great because I am always worried about what to use on my hardwood floors. I recommend ordering an extra refillable bottle if you have both hardwood floors or tile so you can switch back and forth on your cleaners. I also bought 3 of the washable pads too!

While browsing the Rubbermaid site I found these DIY floor cleaner solutions you can use to fill your Real Mop:

Recipe #1 – Great for hardwood floors!

  • 2 Tablespoons ammonia
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon of baby shampoo
  • Fill the rest with hot water

Recipe #2 – Great for unglazed tiles, marble, stone, and slate

  • 2 Tablespoons baking soda
  • 2-3 drops liquid soap
  • Fill the rest with hot water

Recipe #3 – Great for glazed tiles, vinyl, soft tile, cement, brick, and laminate

  • 2Tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2-3 drops liquid soap
  • Fill the rest with hot water

Recipe #4 – Great for hardwood floors

  • 1 Tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Fill the rest with hot water

Make sure to check with your floor’s manufacturer before using any cleaning solution. To give your custom solution a clean scent, simply add a few drops of lemon juice or your favorite scented oil to the mix!

*Please note that these recipes were designed to be used in the 21 oz Reveal Refillable Bottle. If using a bucket, please multiple the quantities for the size of your bucket.

  1. I like the idea of making your own, but -IMO even better is to use steam! Steam kills the bacteria without chemicals and does not build up and leave streaks. I use a steam buggy with multiple attachments, which I prefer over a steam mops, that way I can clean my grout, appliances, and floors.

  2. I JUST PURCHASED YOUR REVEAL SPRAY MOP AND I LOVE IT. MY HOME WAS IN “KATRINA” AND MY HOME WAS UNDER WATER FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND I CAN’T TELL YOU HOW IT SMELLED BUT WE WON’T GO THERE. AFTER ALL THE DAMAGE TO MY FLOORS WHICH HAD CARPET THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE I PULLED IT ALL UP AND HAD HARD WOOD FLOORS PUT IN. NOW THE WHOLE HOUSE IS ALL WOOD FLOORS BUT IT STILL SMELLED BAD WHEN I LOCKED UP THE HOUSE FOR A DAY OR TWO IT STILL HAD THAT MILDEW AROMA. I READ ONE OF THE COMMENTS ON THE MOP WHICH I LOVE BUT I WAS WONDERING IF YOU MADE A STEAM MOP I COULD USE ON MY FLOORS CAUSE I THINK IT WOULD WORK WITH “STEAM” AND SANITIZE THE FLOORS AT THE SAME TIME.
PS. PLEASE EMAIL ME ON THIS MATTER.
A SATISFIED CUSTOMER. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
