To be honest I was skeptical when I first saw this list. I love a good action film and then of course romantic comedies. So personally, my movie night picks weren't on this list. However, if you are really wanting to change things up fora perfect date night movie, this movie list probably has a few you've not seen before!

Our Souls at Night (2017)

This movie should be available on Amazon Prime or streaming services.

Description: Some of the best love stories don't begin with passion at all; rather, they begin with a mutual desire for connection. The story is simply about two lonely widowed people who are attracted to one another and, despite their age difference, embark on a love affair. Nothing more – nothing less! In this film, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford appear as neighbors who start sleeping together – platonically — to avoid loneliness. Why is this so good? Because it reflects the realities of life. People do fall in love at all ages.

The Incredible Jessica James

According to Netflix recommendations, “The Incredible Jessica James” is one of the most romantic movies. When Netflix released The Incredible Jessica James (2017), it quickly became one of the most talked-about films on social media.

The story follows Jessica James, a struggling playwright in New York City who is unlucky with men. She's just coming out of a breakup and decides to start dating again. The movie chronicles one year of her life as she casually dates around, tries to succeed in the big city, and befriends her older neighbor Harold. The film explores the many facets of post-breakup, including starting over, keeping your head up, and even second chances.

This movie is one you would probably appreciate if you love off-beat and more artistic themed movies.

The Lovebirds

Anyone who enjoys a good romantic movie should take a look at the Lovebirds- a romantic movie on Netflix. The dialogue and music contribute to this movie as well. The plot centers around two lovebirds, Charlie and Thelma.

Someone Great

The Golden Age of Romantic Movies has passed, but some new folks are trying to keep the genre alive. “Someone Great” is one of them. Someone Great is a romantic comedy film released on Netflix on April 19, 2018. This romantic movie on Netflix follows two best friends, Jenny and Erin, dealing with their issues. Jenny struggles with her ex-boyfriend Danny whom she has just broken up with, while Erin tries to get over her new relationship, which seems to have hit some problems similar to Jenny's.

The movie follows the two girls as they try to recover from their respective breakups, and through that, it displays how life might not always go your way no matter how hard you try.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before

What is the number 1 romantic movie? This Netflix recommended best romantic movie centers around a high schooler who accidentally emails her love letters to her top five crushes, giving her a tumultuous start to dating life.

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society is a British-American historical romantic comedy-drama film directed by Mike Newell. This narrative follows a writer who visits a reading club in a tiny English town during World War II. She becomes friends with the people in her stay and falls in love with more than simply the beautiful landscape.

My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady is one of the most romantic movies on Netflix starring Audrey Hepburn, Rex Harrison, and Stanley Holloway. The movie was released in the cinema in 1964.

My Fair Lady is a timeless love story for many reasons. Director George Cukor brings the classic tale of phonetics professor Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle to life with an engaging storyline, beautiful visuals, and some of the most memorable songs like “I Could've Danced All Night” and “I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face” are certainly swoon-worthy.

Silver Linings Playbook

No surprise, this film garnered so many nominations for the Academy Awards when it was released in 2012. It has a cast of A-list actors and is about love in the face of tragedy. Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in the film, which was nominated for seven other awards, including the Best Actor and Best Actress Oscars.

Set It Up

Set It Up is also in the Netflix recommendations for best romantic movies. In the movie, workaholic bosses' assistants assume they'll gain more free time by having their bosses date. Hence, they utilize the resources at their disposal (personal calendars, etc.) to attempt to arrange a relationship between their employers. However, as fate would have it, the assistants begin to develop feelings for one another.

Sabrin

Sabrin features a historical romance between Sabrina Fairchild and Linus Larrabee as they struggle to be together against all odds. The Sabrina character is based on the original Sabrina from the 1954 Audrey Hepburn film of the same name, which was inspired by a short story by Sabrina Fairchild from the Chameleon, a play written by Samuel A. Taylor in 1920. If you have not seen Sabrin it is worth every minute of your time.

Malcolm and Marie

As a pandemic theme, this 2021 film follows a couple as they explore the truths of their love in real-time and in a single location. Stars Zendaya and John David Washington.

The Last Letter From Your Lover

Last in our list of best romantic movies on Netflix is “The Last Letter from your Lover.” The movie is about a woman who begins receiving letters written by her former love, but there's more than meets the eye to that story.

The beauty of this movie is also found in its believability with characters whose lives are anything but perfect. The movie conveys that it is never too late to make things right. The movie can move you to tears as it touches on issues such as love and loss, hope and despair, and passion and betrayal.

Valentine's Day (2010) – this has a long cast list!
Date Night – with Steve Carell and Tina Fey
Runaway Bride and Pretty Woman – these are classics with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere
Sweet Home Alabama
Notting Hill
Sleepless in Seattle- one of my favorites with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks
The Holiday- This movie with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz is a fun classic romcom- and one you can enjoy with friends too!
When Harry Met Sally
Dirty Dancing
A Knight's Tale – this one is very quirky and funny at times. It Stars Heath Ledger.
The Wedding Planner- you might have seen this one when it came out in theaters! Stars Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Lopez
P.S. I love You is one of those romantic dramas that might have you crying! It's a good serious/tear-jerker movie option.
The Notebook starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling is a great one to re-watch for your next date night if it's been a while since you've seen it!
