I love snack mixes and this Patriotic Snack Mix Recipe is perfect for summer snacking!
Patriotic Snack Mix!
Everyone loves trail mix around here! Whether it’s Memorial Day, church camp, July 4th, or just because, we all love snacking on this sweet and salty stuff!
The fun thing about making your own snack mixes is that one, there is something in there for everyone, and two- it will quickly disappear! The white mini marshmallows and the Red, White, and Blue M&M’s in this recipe really brighten up the mix and make it festive.
Even better, throw in what you have on hand in the pantry! We always have the little pretzels or pretzel rods, so I added those. Of course cereal is the base on this snack mix, which makes it great for kids and also perfect for on the go.
This Patriotic Snack Mix goes well with Original Cheerios or Honey Nut. I actually prefer a little less sweetness to my own mix, so I like the Original on it’s own. You can always add some of each, if you prefer!
If I don’t have the Original, a second close favorite of mine is Honey Nut Cheerios, which gives just enough sweetness to satisfy that sugar craving without giving in to junk food cravings.
Perfect Snacking for Church Groups!
As you can see, I am not the only one who loves snacking on Cheerios! We had a great time at my church’s Patch the Pirate ministry snacking while we made cards for our food pantry! It was a wonderful way to show kids how to pay it forward.
We love Cheerios for church snacks since they are gluten-free. With lots of food allergies and gluten intolerance out there, its nice not to worry about handing out a snack some kiddos may not be able to eat!
We had some great artists making cards, and everyone took the assignment seriously and did their best! If you are considering donating to a food pantry, keep in mind that Original Yellow Box Cheerios or Honey Nut make a perfect idea to include. We love that Cheerios are heart healthy, gluten free, and not full of sugar as many cereals are. The family size box is a great buy, since as we all know this cereal can go pretty fast!
I want to thank all of our Patch the Pirate kids for participating in this activity to promote the food pantry and help brighten someone’s day! We had a great time and enjoyed lots of Cheerios along the way. Next time you’re purchasing Cheerios, remember your local food pantry and be inspired to make a difference!
