Things You Need to Do Before Moving
You may think that the hard work is over once you’ve found a new home and signed the contract – but the truth is, that’s only the beginning of your moving journey. Today we will talk about things you need to do before moving.
After all, there are many other tasks that you must complete during this time, whether they are related to packing up your home or selling your current property. However, this moving house checklist should help you to ensure that you stay on track!

- Stage your home. Staging your current property is one of the easiest ways to ensure that it sells quickly. This is because it makes for a better viewing experience for potential buyers, who feel as though they can better envision themselves living in your home as a result.
- Improve your curb appeal. While the majority of the buyer's focus will be placed on the property's interior value, first impressions often go a long way during the viewing process. As such, you should make an effort to improve your home’s curb appeal, whether this be through basic garden landscaping or applying a fresh coat of paint to your door.
- Let people know you’re moving. Most of your friends and family will be aware that you are moving home, but there are certain institutions that you need to inform, too. For example, this could include your employer, insurance provider, or healthcare practitioners – all of whom may otherwise send important correspondence to the wrong address. However, you also need to update your address on any websites you use frequently.
- Hire a moving team. There are many benefits associated with hiring a moving company to support you come moving day. For example, they are on hand to do most of the heavy lifting on your behalf while also ensuring that all of your belongings get from A to B safely.
- Declutter your home. There is no sense in bringing something you no longer need or use into your new home. As such, you should declutter your home before you even begin to think about packing. Remember, you don’t necessarily need to throw these items away (especially if you’re trying to be more sustainable); you could always sell them online or donate them to charity.
- Start packing 2 months in advance. You’d be surprised at just how much time it can take to pack to move house. Remember, this is a whole different ball game to packing for a holiday, where you simply need to throw some swimming suits into a suitcase and hope for the best. As such, the sooner you get started on this task, the better! It's typically advised that you start packing around 2 months in advance, starting with items you won’t need to use in the run-up to the move. In some cases, hiring a storage unit can help you to stay organized and on track, and it also means you can unpack leisurely.
In short, the easiest way to prepare for your move is to be as organized as possible! Write down a list of things you need to do before moving, alongside important dates, and refer back to it as often as you need.
