Why is it called dump cake?

Have you ever heard of a dump cake? The first time you see that name it might seem confusing, but once you make one and see how easy it is to simply “dump” everything into your cake pan you will understand the name. No mixing and folding. Dump and spread or sprinkle.

Another easy dessert recipe with a cherry dump cake with a box of yellow cake mix and a little bit of butter. All of the dump cake recipes we have tried have been so delicious, you just can't go wrong with one when you need a quick dessert.

How long does dump cake last?

This cake won't last long if your family is like mine, but if you do have leftovers you can store them in the refrigerator for 4-5 days, in a plastic wrap covered baking dish or in an airtight container is best.

Is dump cake supposed to be gooey?

Dump cakes will be gooier than a plain cake, but not runny. More like a melty brownie with melted chocolate, it will ooze, but be thick. The texture for these cakes is the best thing. The golden brown top crust made with pats of butter combine with the gooey inside texture and together it is amazing.

Can dump cake sit out overnight?

For most fruit based dump cakes it will be ok to sit out at room temperature for the night, but it will last better and not spoil as quickly if you refrigerate it. I do think it is yummier warm, so I like to refrigerate the leftovers, but heat them up for a few seconds before topping with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or even strawberry ice cream.

Only 4 Ingredients:

1 box of strawberry dry cake mix

2 sticks of butter

2 cans of strawberry filling (you can use fresh strawberries for the strawberry flavor but having the cans in the pantry is a time saver and something I can buy way ahead of time and it still keep)

whipped cream

If you haven't made a dump cake before, you're in for a real treat. The simplicity of the traditional dump cake combined with the ease and energy efficiency of using your slow cooker just can't be beat! Use extra ingredients if you would like to but they really are not necessary for it to be delicious. Depending on what flavors you use for a dump cake you can think of different sweet toppings to go on after it is cooked, like even some fresh sliced strawberries or white chocolate chips. It is a simple recipe that you can play around with and find your own favorite flavor combinations.

I recommend not using a crockpot liner for this recipe. The liner will keep you from getting that crusty texture around the edges that really takes the taste over the top, and trust me, you want that! Just spray with a nonstick spray instead. Spray oils are now sold in healthier propellant free options, and you can also get great oil misters which are refillable and very economical too. Top with whip cream or cool whip if you prefer and enjoy!
