5 Year Old Birthday Party Activities

Decide on Your Budget

A good way to start planning your child's birthday party is to decide on your budget. This will help you to narrow down your options and choose fun activities that are within your price range. If you have a large group of friends or family members, you may want to consider renting a space or book entertainers for birthday parties. Taking into account the scale of the party guests and the number of kids you can add small or large custom bouncy houses for the kids to jump, bounce, and giggle nonstop. These inflatable marvels provide hours of enjoyment and bring a special touch of magic to any birthday party with their brilliant colors and intriguing designs. You can provide your child and friends with an exciting and thrilling pastime and stay within your chosen budget. Remember, the goal is to make this a special day for your child, so don't be afraid to splurge on a few key elements. With careful planning and a little creativity, you can throw a birthday party that will be remembered for years to come. Sometimes you have more time to plan than others. If you can start thinking of this a few months ahead you have more time to shop sales and find better deals. If you want a clown, or princess to come entertain you may have to pay more if you don't book way in advance. No matter what your budget is or how much time you have to plan with a few simple steps you can really plan a great party.

Pick Your Birthday Party Theme

Choosing a birthday party theme can be a daunting task, especially when you have young party guests. However, with a little bit of creativity, you can easily find a theme that will please everyone. Themed parties can be great fun for both party guests and the birthday child, but it's important to choose a theme that is appropriate for the age group. For a five-year-old's birthday party, you might have a princess or pirate theme. Gold coins for a Pirate party you could have a fun treasure chest full of gold coins or a scavenger hunt with a treasure map. Make a list of a few of your child's favorite things or characters. Check on Pinterest for ideas, search online for decorations, but even if you don't buy those specific items you can see some great tablescapes. Sometimes buying decorations in a certain color scheme may be all you need to really achieve a look that pulls your ideas together. You may also make a trip to your local stores to see what they carry if you are looking for pirates or Minnie Mouse, they may have just what you need for your party theme. I like to buy just a few pieces with the characters on them, but then save some money by buying plain table cloths, cups etc in coordinating colors. Thinking of some fun alternatives for decorations can be lots of fun. Even using specific colors of fruits, snacks and drinks can make more of an impact that expensive brand names party ware. I'm thinking of our Star Wars party theme and the green Yoda punch. If you are planning a party near a certain holiday (May the Fourth= Star Wars) may help you find some colors or decorations that might not be available during other parts of the year. Have you ever thought of a birthday when you are on vacation? We once took our son to Disney World for his birthday, we packed some small Disney figures to take with us. Last month we had a large group family vacation at the beach and my niece turned 6. We had a mermaid theme with seashell plates and large balloons we hung from the ceiling. Think about anything that you can pull off well, and your kids will really think makes them feel important on their special day. Picking your theme will also help you decide on your 5 year old birthday party activities.

Other fun themes for kids birthday parties:

  • Angry Birds
  • Super Hero with an Outdoor Movie Night
  • Noah's Ark with a Petting Zoo
  • Roblox or Minecraft (use cardboard boxes to make blocks- this is a great birthday party idea because you can make so many big decorations that will really WOW your guests.)

Plan Fun Birthday Party Games

You can have so much fun with a great game. Look at your guest list and keep the ages of the kids and the number of kids in mind. Lets look at some 5 year old birthday party activities.. Simon says, Red Rover, sack races and musical chairs are some classic party games. They will be a hit with the young kids. The older kids may enjoy something a bit more challenging (although I have seen some epic battles take place with adults and musical chairs, but that's for another post) than these classic games. The location and time of year can help you determine a good game. For the summer a pool party or splash pad at the local park are great options. Think about water balloon games, Marco Polo or other water based games. If you tend to throw more home parties think about your space, a garden party and things you already have on hand. The dollar store is a great place to find small party favors. Even checking the dollar aisle or party aisle at your local stores can give you great options based on popular themes. I know teen boys like to go play paintball or air soft for a birthday with friends, but young children can enjoy a game with a nerf gun instead. Look at your kids favorite toys and activities. Some of the best games can be made at home using plastic cups, balloons or ping pong balls. My husband made a plinko board and a ring toss with items from the harware store following free instructions online. These are sturdy games that can be used over and over for years and the kids love to play these games.

Ice Cream Sandwiches

Activities and Food

Sometimes you have only younger kids, so instead of actual games things of things for little hands. Blowing bubbles or sidewalk chalk can be fun, but also think of food. Maybe build your own pizza or decorate your own cookie that goes along with the theme could keep your crown occupied. If you are outside or at the splash pad maybe skip the cakes and have an ice cream bar or make colorful, fruit filled ice pops that go along with your theme and location. Don't forget to bring the music. You can make a playlist based on your these as well. This comes in handy especially if you do plan on playing musical chairs or another game like a cupcake walk!

With some careful planning, online research, a budget and some idea you can throw a party for kids that party goers will remember for years to come. As a mom, my top tip is to ask another family member or good friend to take pictures for you, even if it's just on their phone and they text them to you. You want to save these memories but having someone else capture these moments means you get to be in the photos too, and you can focus on the kids and all the fun.

We hope these 5 year old birthday party activities help you plan the perfect birthday party for your litte one.
