DAV Vehicle Donation Program
“This post was sponsored by DAV. All opinions are my own.”
I am glad to share news to readers about the DAV Vehicle Donation Program. See how you can contribute to this organization!
Importance of Supporting Our Veterans
I wanted to spread the word on this program with DAV since supporting our veterans and their families is so important to me personally. We have a few veterans in our own family. My husband's cousin Mike served 20 years in the Army in communications and training. Another family member, Tim, was a SSG (supply sergeant) for 17 years, including one deployment to Kuwait.
If you're not familiar with DAV (Disabled American Veterans), this program “helps empower veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity”.
What is the Vehicle Donation Program?
I can remember years ago, the DAV van driving through our neighborhood and picking up donations left on porches. While many of us know about donating small items like clothing and furniture, it may come as a surprise to know that DAV also accepts vehicle donations!
The process isn't complicated. If you or a loved one have an older car that is no longer of use to your family, you can actually donate it to this organization. DAV supports veterans and their families, so you can be assured your vehicle will go to help those in need. DAV is a nonprofit aimed at supporting veterans and their families, through employment, accessing their eligible benefits, and more.
How to Donate a Vehicle to DAV:
There are several steps involved, so if you're considering this as a way to pass on an unneeded vehicle it's good to be aware of how the DAV process works!
- Call 833-CAR-4DAV (833-227-4328) or complete the online donation form, which ever you prefer.
- Schedule Your Free and Convenient Pick-up! DAV will tow the vehicle free of charge as long as the vehicle is tow and tow-truck accessible.
- Get Your Tax Deduction. Vehicle donations are tax-deductible! An initial donation receipt will be provided to you (owner) at the time of the pick-up.
- Keep an eye on the mail. If the vehicle sells for $500 or less, donors are also mailed a thank-you letter within 30 days of the sale of the vehicle, which serves as a tax receipt. If the vehicle sells for more than $500 and the donor has provided their tax identification number, an IRS Form 1098-C will be mailed to the donor within 30 days of the sale stating the amount of gross proceeds (the maximum amount of your tax deduction) received from your donation. For specific tax-related questions, please consult your tax advisor. {These instructions are for general information only}.
If you have a family member (or you yourself) have donated a vehicle in the past, be sure to leave us a comment on Facebook or on this blog post!
I hope to get the word out and share this great opportunity not only for those looking to donate an unneeded vehicle safety and easily, but also to help support our veterans.
