Destination Unknown!

When I was a child my Grandmother always made sure the grand-kids had plenty of love and plenty to do. I remember when she would call us on the phone and say “Destination Unknown” and then hang up. This meant get ready, she was coming to pick us up. It was a game she played that meant we were going somewhere special we just didn't know where. (unless of course she told us to bring a swim suit). It might be on a Trip to Roman Nose State park or to Dairy Queen to get an ice cream cone – you just never knew!

She would take us to the neatest places like Arbuckle Wilderness and Turner Falls. She was very creative in where she would take us and she very rarely spent a lot of money. Maybe that's where I get my frugalness from?

I have since started the same tradition with my kids. My kids love driving in the car and trying to guess place we're going. Now that I have to work full time we have really had to get creative lol!

Where is a fun place that you enjoy taking your kids? Do you have any fun traditions like this that you did as a child?

  1. What a great story! One of the places we always had fun is Great Salt Plains state park
near Jet/Nash. The park is open April-Oct and
is one of the few places to dig for Selenite
crystals. Best of all it is free!
