Why Freshen Towels?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds wet towels on the floor. No matter how many times I tell everyone to hang up their towels after they are done, they're still left in a wet soggy heap on the floor.

If you think your kids will outgrow this one– let me just tell you everyone does it no matter what their age! 🙂

Heavy use of towels over the years will really take its toll. And, if you prefer to use the same brands and colors of towels like we do, you really do want them to last as long as possible.

After time I've noticed that my once fluffy towels were feeling dingy and matted. I realized I didn't need to spend money on new towels, I just needed to freshen up my old ones!

Over time towels will seem to not be as absorbent as they first were. The problem with mine was, over time detergent and fabric softener were building up, causing my towels to be less absorbent. This tip will help prevent that and other problems like odors.

Now, I'm not saying you need to do this every time you wash your towels, just ever so often when they need freshening up.

The good news is that once they go in the dryer, after this refreshing treatment, your towels should dry much quicker! They also may look a little more fluffy.

Prep Time 5 minutes

Active Time 5 minutes

Total Time 10 minutes

Materials

baking Soda
vinegar

Tools

none

Instructions

Add towels in the washer and fill with hot water.

Pour in 1 cup of vinegar

Add 1/2 cup of baking soda.

Run through the wash cycle.

If this is being done for the first time, you may want to repeat the above before drying

You'll need white vinegar, baking soda and hot water. Don't worry, I promise they will not smell like vinegar!

Sniff Sniff…don't they smell nice!

Here's some tips to keep your towels fresher longer:

Make sure towels are completely dry before putting away in the linen closet
Don't make the mistake of using too much detergent. It can cause build up.
After each use hang towels up to dry
Fabric softeners can coat towels in a thin layer of chemicals which causes the to be less absorbent. Skip the softener and use 1/2 cup of vinegar instead.
