Well, here we are once again with a quick and easy slow cooker meal for those hectic days. I have learned that when we plan ahead and the more we use our slow cooker that we actually eat healthier.
Because you know there are those days when things happen and plans change and if you aren’t prepared your grabbing something quick , last minute, which can usually lead to unhealthy choices.
I don’t know what has gotten in to me lately but I have been completely obsessed with the era of my childhood and even farther back then that, when I spent a lot of time at my grandmothers house and she would cook for all of us grand kids.
This Slow Cooker Green Beans Potatoes and Sausage recipe reminds me of my childhood and it’s so easy to throw together and make. A Great Frugal Meal
As you can see from my local grocery prices here in Oklahoma, this recipe comes in at around 5 bucks for the whole family!! It’s the ultimate frugal meal if you’re trying to fit things into a tight budget but also have a variety of foods on the menu.
For the smoked sausage, just use whatever flavor you like best. I prefer the Kielbasa. My Walmart has them for around $2.50, and we often get coupons for these. The green beans and potatoes are going to be the same price for most of the year, aside from holidays when we can see some major sale prices on both. This picture below is during the summer at one of our local stores.
Look for off brands on the green beans- as a frugal tip. You won’t notice any flavor differences after all the flavors have mixed together in your slow cooker!
As I mentioned you can find all these ingredients at Aldi too, so no need to try to aim for big grocery sales or coupon if you don’t have time. Enjoy this recipe this week!

- 1- pound smoked sausage , or Kielbasa sausage
- 1 ½ pounds green beans , or 4 cans
- 5-6 potatoes
- 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
- 1 ½ cups chicken broth
- Wash and cut potatoes into small cubes. I choose not to peel the potatoes however you can if you prefer.
- Cut smoked sausage into bite size pieces
- Wash and cut up fresh green beans
- Toss potatoes, sausages and green beans into the crockpot
- Pour in a cup to a cup and a half of chicken stock and season to taste with the seasoned salt.
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours
