Before you buy your Holiday Ham know what type you want to get. Do you want to get bone-in or boneless? How big of a ham do you need to feed your guest. Allow for ½ to ¾ lbs per serving for a bone-in ham and ¼ to ½ lbs per serving for a boneless ham.
Here’s some more tips to help you:
1.Let the ham sit at room temperature for about an hour before cooking.
2. Don’t go glaze happy! Glazes can burn very quickly so apply it 15-30 minutes before taking it out of the oven, and take a peek once in a while to make sure it’s not burning.
3.Hams are often already cooked so really what you are doing is just reheating them. Don’t go past an internal temperature of 145 degrees or else it will start to dry out. Use a thermometer and stick it deep in the ham to get an accurate reading.
4. Patience is a virtue! Like many other meats, a ham needs to sit when it gets out of the over to stay juicy. Let it sit for about 20 minutes once it’s out of the oven.
