Pumpkin lovers will also love this recipe, because in the Fall everything is better with a little pumpkin!
Pumpkin Spice Pretzels can be a delightful fall treat, and there are many complementary items you can serve with them to enhance the overall experience. Here are some suggestions:
- Dipping Sauces:
- Cream Cheese Frosting: This is a classic choice. The sweet and creamy frosting pairs well with the spiced pretzels.
- Caramel Sauce: Drizzle warm caramel sauce over the pretzels or use it as a dipping sauce for an extra dose of sweetness.
- Chocolate Ganache: Melted chocolate or chocolate ganache can be a fantastic dip, especially if you love the combination of chocolate and pumpkin flavors.
- Whipped Cream: Serve a dollop of whipped cream for a lighter option that complements the spices.
- Ice Cream: A scoop of vanilla or cinnamon ice cream can be a delicious pairing, adding a creamy and cold contrast to the warm and spiced pretzels.
- Hot Beverages:
- Pumpkin Spice Latte: Serve with a homemade or store-bought pumpkin spice latte for a double dose of pumpkin spice goodness.
- Hot Apple Cider: Warm apple cider with a cinnamon stick can be a cozy and seasonal drink to enjoy alongside your pretzels.
- Fruit: Fresh or dried fruits can add a touch of freshness and contrast to the sweet and spiced pretzels. Try apple slices, pears, or cranberries.
- Nuts: Roasted nuts, such as pecans or walnuts, can provide a crunchy texture and complement the warm spices.
- Cheese: Consider a cheese platter with mild cheeses like brie or cream cheese. The creaminess of the cheese can balance the sweetness of the pretzels.
- Yogurt: A bowl of Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon can make for a healthy and tasty side.
- Cinnamon-Sugar Mix: Create a small bowl of cinnamon and sugar for dipping the pretzels. This adds extra sweetness and enhances the spice flavor.
- Pumpkin Dip: Make a pumpkin-flavored dip using cream cheese, pumpkin puree, powdered sugar, and spices. It's a perfect match for pumpkin spice pretzels.
- Salad: If you're looking for a more balanced option, serve a light salad with seasonal ingredients like mixed greens, apples, candied pecans, and a vinaigrette dressing.
Remember to consider the preferences and dietary restrictions of your guests when choosing what to serve alongside your Pumpkin Spice Pretzels. These suggestions can be mixed and matched to create a well-rounded and enjoyable snack or dessert spread.

Recipe Substitutions for Pumpkin Spice Pretzels
If you're looking to make pumpkin spice pretzels but need to make substitutions due to dietary restrictions or ingredient availability, here are some common ingredient swaps you can consider:
- Pumpkin Puree:
- Substitute canned pumpkin with mashed sweet potato or butternut squash for a similar texture and flavor.
- Pumpkin Spice Seasoning:
- Create your own pumpkin spice blend by mixing ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. Adjust the proportions to your taste.
- If you're missing one or more spices, just use the ones you have. While it won't be an exact pumpkin spice flavor, it will still be delicious.
- Sugar:
- Use brown sugar, coconut sugar, or a sugar substitute (like stevia or erythritol) if you're looking for a lower-sugar option.
- Butter:
- For a dairy-free option, use coconut oil, vegetable oil, or a dairy-free butter substitute like margarine.
- Flour:
- If you need a gluten-free alternative, use a gluten-free flour blend (such as almond flour, coconut flour, or a gluten-free all-purpose flour mix) in place of regular wheat flour.
- Yeast:
- Consider using instant yeast or active dry yeast if you don't have the specific yeast called for in the recipe.
- Salt:
- Most salt varieties are interchangeable. Use sea salt, kosher salt, or table salt based on what you have.
- Milk:
- Substitute dairy milk with a non-dairy milk like almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk for a vegan or lactose-free version.
- Egg:
- Use a flax or chia seed egg (1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed or chia seeds mixed with 3 tablespoons of water) as an egg replacement for binding if you're vegan or have an egg allergy.
- Toppings and Coatings:
- Instead of traditional pretzel salt, you can use coarse sea salt, sesame seeds, or pumpkin seeds for a unique twist.
- If you don't have cinnamon-sugar, you can use a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
Remember that these substitutions may slightly alter the taste, texture, or appearance of your pumpkin spice pretzels, but they can still yield delicious results while accommodating various dietary needs or ingredient shortages. Always be mindful of allergies and dietary restrictions when making substitutions, and adjust as needed to suit your preferences.
How to Store Pumpkin Spice Pretzels
To keep your Pumpkin Spice Pretzels fresh and delicious for as long as possible, follow these storage guidelines:
- Cool to Room Temperature: Allow your freshly baked or purchased pumpkin spice pretzels to cool completely at room temperature before storing. This prevents condensation from forming inside the container.
- Air-Tight Container: Place the pretzels in an airtight container. You can use a plastic container with a tight-sealing lid, a resealable plastic bag, or a cookie tin with a secure lid.
- Separate Layers: If you're stacking multiple layers of pretzels in the container, consider placing parchment paper or wax paper between the layers. This helps prevent them from sticking together.
- Avoid Moisture: Moisture can make pretzels lose their freshness and become soggy. Ensure the container is completely dry, and don't store the pretzels in a humid environment.
- Cool, Dry Place: Store the container in a cool, dry place. Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, as excessive heat can cause the pretzels to become stale more quickly.
- Refrigeration (Optional): While it's not necessary, you can refrigerate the pretzels to extend their shelf life. However, this might affect their texture and make them a bit chewier. If you choose to refrigerate them, be sure they are in an airtight container to prevent absorbing any unwanted odors from the fridge.
- Freezing (Long-Term Storage): For longer storage, you can freeze your pumpkin spice pretzels. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, and then place them in an airtight freezer bag or container. Label with the date for reference. When you're ready to enjoy them, thaw at room temperature or warm them in the oven.
- Consume Promptly: For the best taste and texture, consume your pumpkin spice pretzels within 3-5 days when stored at room temperature. Frozen pretzels can be stored for several months but should be eaten within that time frame for optimal quality.
By following these storage tips, you can enjoy your pumpkin spice pretzels at their best for an extended period, whether you're savoring them right away or saving some for later.
