Kid Friendly: Kids Can Decorate

You can let your kids decorate these Frankenstein brownies with their favorite spooky toppings! It's a fun and creative way to get them involved in the kitchen while making delicious treats. Start by gathering all your ingredients: Frankenstein brownies, candy eyeballs, white chocolate, green food color, mini M&M's, cooking spray, and frosted brownies. You can use small chocolate candies  for the pupils of the eyes. These fun things can be great for the whole family.

To begin, prepare the Frankenstein brownies according to the recipe. It helps to line a cookie sheet or bar pan with parchment paper or you can prepare it if you grease the bottom of the pan and dust with all purpose flour.  Once they are baked and cooled, cut them into rectangular shapes. Melt the white chocolate in the microwave or over a double boiler until smooth and creamy. Add a few drops of green food color to create a vibrant green color for the Frankenstein face. Stir well to combine.

Now, it's time for the fun part! Set up a decorating station with all the toppings. Let your kids use their imagination to create unique and spooky Frankenstein faces on each brownie. They can use the melted white chocolate as glue to attach the candy eyeballs and mini M&M's for the mouth and bolts.

Once they are done decorating, place the brownies in the fridge for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to set. Then, serve these fun treats to your friends and family. Your kids will be proud to show off their creative masterpiece, and everyone will enjoy these delicious and spooky Frankenstein brownies!

You can find an individual serving brownie pan that also lets you prepare individual brownies. This is nice if they need to be spot-on, perfection when cut into squares. (Like for a bake sale, Halloween event, or something similar.) 🙂 There's also a brownie pan with dividers that achieves the same perfect slices but without every piece being an “edge piece”.

Of course you can also use your favorite brownie recipe if you have one on hand that always turns out beautiful. There are a multitude of brownie recipes online so I have to be careful to choose one I know will turn out well! Especially if I'm going to be making these as special treats for an event or Halloween party. Many prefer homemade brownies so do what you prefer best!

Using Store Bought Brownie Mix Makes it easy

Making brownies using store-bought mix is a quick and convenient way to whip up a tasty treat. With just a few simple steps, you can transform a basic boxed cake mix into delicious Frankenstein-inspired brownies that will impress your friends and family. Here's how to do it:

– Start by gathering your ingredients:

– 1 box of brownie mix

– Additional ingredients listed on the brownie mix box

– Green food coloring

– Candy eyes

– Black and purple cookie icing

Prepare Brownie Mix as directed, cook and let cool thoroughly.

Soften Cream Cheese icing in microwave in 15 second increments, checking after each 15 seconds. Icing should be slightly soft, so it can be drizzled over brownies.

Add green food coloring and mix throughly.

Cover brownie with green icing.

Add frankensteins hair , mouth and shirt with cookie icing.

Add edible googly eyes and let dry in cool place.

Optional: add other colors over white Cream Cheese Icing. Black Sparkle Cookie icing is shown.

In just a short amount of time, you'll have a batch of brownies that are not only delicious but also visually impressive. Enjoy your easy Frankenstein brownies and let your creativity shine!

What Can I use Instead of Oil for my Boxed Brownie Mix?

Using applesauce instead of oil for your boxed brownie mix can result in a healthier and still delicious treat. The substitution of applesauce not only reduces the fat content in the brownies, but also adds natural sweetness and moisture. To achieve the perfect texture and taste, follow these meticulous steps.

Pour the batter into the prepared square pan, using a spatula to spread it evenly. Take care to create thin lines and a flat surface for even baking. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake according to the instructions on the boxed mix.

Once the brownies are fully baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, you can get creative and decorate them with black frosting to resemble the iconic Frankenstein's monster. Let your imagination run wild!

How to Cut Perfect and Non-Crumbled Brownies!

To achieve nicely cut brownies, bake them in a baking dish over parchment paper, leaving a small overhang on each side you can use to “lift” the entire batch out of the dish. You can then gently set the large rectangle of brownies on a wire rack. Don't go far with it– to avoid cracking and breaking the batch! Cool completely.

iced brownie

After brownies are cooled and cut into squares, top with green cookie icing. Alternately, you can use white frosting with a green food color gel or drops. Go slowly adding the food coloring. I always recommend mixing as much as you need up in a separate medium bowl.

That way you won't run out and have to attempt to match the exact color! If you're starting out with homemade white frosting, divide frosting into two medium bowls, leaving more for the green frosting than the other colors.

Frankenstein Hair

I like the Wilton Cookie icing since it has a good consistency and is reliable . You can shop this cookie icing at most larger Walmart or Target stores, or online at Amazon. After the green, just top with black gel icing (We used black sparkle gel), with a nice zig-zag going along the hair line.

Decorating Your Frankenstein Brownies

Next, place edible googly eyes on top of the green. You can find a nice sized container for under $3 on Amazon, so I would recommend just buying one and having it in the pantry. These will keep for a long time. Be sure to buy the edible candy eyes!

Frankenstein eyes

I am not the greatest cookie decorator out there, and by no means a professional, so for me the candy eyes take the most difficult aspect out of decorating the face! The nose and mouth I just went along freehand with, again with the Black Sparkle Icing.

Frankenstein Brownie

You can definitely make this your own, so if you have brown icing or even red you can make similar “monsterish” looks! I had some blue cookie icing so made Frankenstein’s shirt with that. Again, just use whatever you have available!

How to Store Leftovers

To ensure your leftovers stay fresh and safe to eat, refrigerate them promptly and seal them in airtight containers. Proper storage is essential for maintaining the taste and quality of your food. Here's how to store your leftovers like a pro:

– Refrigerate promptly: As soon as you finish your meal, transfer any remaining food to the refrigerator. This will help prevent the growth of bacteria and keep your leftovers safe to eat.

– Use airtight containers: Seal your leftovers in airtight containers to prevent air from getting in and causing spoilage. This will also help retain the moisture and flavors of your food.

– Cool place: Store your leftovers in the coolest part of your refrigerator, preferably at a temperature below 40°F (4°C). This will slow down the growth of bacteria and extend the shelf life of your food.

– Wax paper: Place a sheet of wax paper on top of each brownie before sealing them in the container. This will prevent any extra hair or debris from sticking to the top of each brownie.

– Brownie pops: If you have leftover brownies on a stick, place them upright in a nonstick pan and cover them with a sheet of wax paper. This will help them stay moist and prevent them from drying out.

Different Variations

Have you tried experimenting with different variations of the classic Frankenstein brownie recipe? If not, it's time to unleash your creativity and take your brownie game to the next level. With just a few simple additions and tweaks, you can transform the traditional brownie into a masterpiece that will wow your friends and family.

If you're feeling adventurous, try experimenting with different variations of the Frankenstein brownie recipe. Take your boxed cake mix to new heights with these innovative twists:

1. **Green Monster Brownies**: Add a splash of excitement to your brownies by incorporating green food coloring paste into the batter. Watch as the vibrant hue transforms your treats into monstrous delights. Serve them up at your next Halloween party or any time you crave something unique and eye-catching.

2. **Creepy Crawly Brownie Pops**: Start by cutting your large brownies into squares. Insert a lollipop stick into the flat back side of each brownie pop. Melt some chocolate and pour it into small bowls. Dip your brownie pops into the melted chocolate, covering them completely. Then, sprinkle chocolate jimmies over the top for a fun, textured look. Finish off by using black writing gel to draw spider webs or other creepy designs on the pops. Place small pieces of licorice to resemble the spider's legs. These spooky treats are perfect for Halloween parties or any occasion that calls for a touch of eerie elegance.

To add an extra touch of flair, consider using purple frosting to create Frankenstein's iconic hair. Simply pipe the frosting onto the top of each brownie in a jagged design. Let your imagination run wild and enjoy the delectable results of your creative experimentation!
