Easy Frankenstein Brownies
If you loved my Easy Mummy Brownies but want something a little more decorative, check out these Easy Frankenstein Brownies! They will be a sure hit for Halloween Parties and all your requests for Halloween desserts!
Easy Frankenstein Brownies!
We start with a fully cooked brownie mix, which as I’ve mentioned in other blog posts is just the traditional Duncan Hines Chocolate Fudge mix. Prepare as directed, and make sure brownies are fully cooled prior to cutting to ensure nice clean lines and for easier cutting.
You can find an individual serving brownie pan that also lets you prepare individual brownies. This is nice if they need to be spot-on, perfection when cut into squares. (Like for a bake sale, Halloween event, or something similar.) 🙂 There's also a brownie pan with dividers that achieves the same perfect slices but without every piece being an “edge piece”.
Of course you can also use your favorite brownie recipe if you have one on hand that always turns out beautiful. There are a multitude of brownie recipes online so I have to be careful to choose one I know will turn out well! Especially if I'm going to be making these as special treats for an event or Halloween party. Many prefer homemade brownies so do what you prefer best!
How to Cut Perfect and Non-Crumbled Brownies!
To achieve nicely cut brownies, bake them in a baking dish over parchment paper, leaving a small overhang on each side you can use to “lift” the entire batch out of the dish. You can then gently set the large rectangle of brownies on a wire rack. Don't go far with it– to avoid cracking and breaking the batch! Cool completely.
After brownies are cooled and cut into squares, top with green cookie icing. Alternately, you can use white frosting with a green food color gel or drops. Go slowly adding the food coloring. I always recommend mixing as much as you need up in a separate medium bowl.
That way you won't run out and have to attempt to match the exact color! If you're starting out with homemade white frosting, divide frosting into two medium bowls, leaving more for the green frosting than the other colors.
I like the Wilton Cookie icing since it has a good consistency and is reliable . You can shop this cookie icing at most larger Walmart or Target stores, or online at Amazon. After the green, just top with black gel icing (We used black sparkle gel), with a nice zig-zag going along the hair line.
Decorating Your Brownies
Next, place edible googly eyes on top of the green. You can find a nice sized container for under $3 on Amazon, so I would recommend just buying one and having it in the pantry. These will keep for a long time. Be sure to buy the edible candy eyes!
I am not the greatest cookie decorator out there, and by no means a professional, so for me the candy eyes take the most difficult aspect out of decorating the face! The nose and mouth I just went along freehand with, again with the Black Sparkle Icing.
If you don't have cookie decorating skills and want to make it easier, you can always just use candy corns for the nose and a small pretzel stick on each side of the brownie for the neck bolts. Other decorative candies include red chocolate beans, tootsie rolls, Mini M&M candies and white or chocolate sprinkles.
You can definitely make this your own, so if you have brown icing or even red you can make similar “monsterish” looks! I had some blue cookie icing so made Frankenstein’s shirt with that. Again, just use whatever you have available!
We had fun making different Frankenstein faces. This is a fun activity for older kids to get in on, in the kitchen, too!
As I mentioned in my last post, these Frankenstein Halloween Brownies will go a long way on a budget, so if you are making classroom treats for school or church, this is a perfect idea and such and easy recipe to whip up.
