Ways to Make:
Of course you can make Oreo cookie balls with Golden Oreos too, this can make a fun party tray with variety. The process and recipe would be the same, just switch up your cookies to make your Oreo crumbs.
You can use melted milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate to create patterns and designs on the outside. We like to dip them in one chocolate and add a drizzle of a contrasting color of chocolate.
If you use white chocolate, almond bark, or white chocolate candy melts (or chocolate chips) you can add a bit of food coloring to make them festive. You can make red and green ones at Christmas, red and pink ones for Valentine's Day etc., the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. No matter which you choose you are definitely going to have the perfect dessert to satisfy your chocolate cravings.
Haven't Heard of Oreo Cheesecake Balls?
We love to take the chocolate version of Oreo Cheesecake Balls to Christmas parties. We always come home with an empty tray, but you can also package these to give away to friends and teachers.
The ones made with the new Pumpkin spice Oreos are really going to wow folks. You will need to prepare by getting your ingredients, food processor, a cookie sheet, parchment paper and if you want to make cake pops add a lollipop stick. These are simple because they are NO BAKE Oreo cheesecake balls so you shouldn't feel intimidated if you aren't a big baker or dessert person. It is such an easy dessert recipe.
Here are your basic ingredients, but you can make substitutes for a number of these items to make different flavors. I love to make these into peanut butter balls but adding that in when you mix cream cheese into your Oreo cookie crumbs. Beware though, that is an extremely decadent treat! Mint extract or almond extract are also simple to add to this Oreo ball recipe.
For this recipe you will need:
- One package of Pumpkin Spice Oreos- these are seasonal, and usually available in stores around August or September.
- 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese. Be sure to soften to room temp!
- One pound (total) of chocolates for melting. Use 2 to 3 varieties or colors for this recipe.
- Sprinkles or other toppings of choice- I usually have fall sprinkles, but you can use any, or skip this all together. If needed, reserve some dry cookie crumbs to add to the tops of the Oreo Balls instead.
How to Mix:
First you want to start off by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then add your cookies into the food processor and creating a nice crushed Oreo crumb using the pulse button.
In a separate bowl whip your cream cheese with your hand mixer for about a minute getting it to a smooth spreadable consistency, you might want to let it get to room temperature first.
Add the cookie crumbs into the cream cheese bowl and combine the two ingredients into a cookie and cream cheese mixture that will stick together when rolled into balls.
Use a teaspoon or a small cookie scoop, which is one of the easiest ways to dip out an amount to make 2 inch balls. Dip it and use your hands to roll it into nice round balls.
Place the balls on the parchment lined cookie sheet and place it in the freezer. You want these to set up well, so keep them in the freezer 20-40 minutes at least.
When that time is almost up (but not too soon) you want to melt your chocolates for dipping. Use two microwave safe bowls for the different kinds of chocolate to melt. If you bought candy melts follow the directions on the package, otherwise microwave in 30 second increments, stopping to stir. You may need to add a splash of heavy whipping cream or a teaspoon of coconut oil if it doesn't get smooth enough.
Coating the Oreo Cheesecake Bites
Take the no bake Oreo cheesecake bites from the freezer and use a fork or two to lower half of them into white chocolate (you can add orange food coloring the Pumpkin spice ones) and half into the milk or dark chocolate. Let the excess melted chocolate drip off before placing them back onto the cookie sheet.
You may want to return them to the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes before adding a contrasting chocolate drizzle and topping like a few more cookie crumbs or festive candy sprinkles.
The craft store has Halloween and fall varieties of sprinkles. If you are using a lollipop stick add it now. Once these steps are done go ahead and chill on the lined baking sheet for at least an hour before serving.
After the setting time is completed you can package them up for gifting or making your party tray. If it's just for your family to snack on you can store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. For presentation, if you are wrapping these up and gifting them you may also want to use a cupcake liner with a pattern or orange color to set each one on.
These delicious Oreo truffles are not going to last that long though, they may be safe in the refrigerator for longer, but we've never seen them in there that long, they are going to be one of your new favorite treats for sure. Make sure to print these cute fall tags and add it to your recipe card file, you don't want to lose it. Everyone will ask you how you made these no bake Oreo cheesecake balls.
