We all have our main dishes pretty much chosen at this point. It’s traditionally a turkey, ham, or just maybe a duck taking that will be taking center stage on our dining room table when it is set for the upcoming holiday. It’s the side dishes where we tend to get stuck each year! Every holiday we make the same things. There’s no way we can just not make mashed potatoes or green bean casserole! However, no one says we can’t flavor up the dishes we already love. I don’t know about you, but there’s always room for new favorites in my house! So, in no particular order…
Creamy Mashed Red Skin Potatoes
New Potatoes with Sweet Brown Onions
Cornbread sausage stuffing with apples and pecans
Sweet Potato Casserole with Marshmallow & Pecan Streusel
Creamy Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes
Broccoli Cauliflower Cheese Bake
Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Casserole
We all have a few picky eaters who would rather have something besides ham and turkey.
Here are a couple of sure to please casseroles!
No list could be complete without Cranberries!
Many of us grew up with the somewhat weird yet comforting site of cranberry jelly. We’ve branched out, and tried making homemade whole berry cranberry sauce. We’ve mixed cranberries into our dressing, even used them as a beautiful decoration in our centerpiece. The fact remains that many of us have a hard time incorporating the favored Fall fruit into our meal. Here is a new one that I’m looking forward to trying out. It calls for a vanilla bean. If you don’t buy these whole, the standard substitution is 1 vanilla bean = 1 Tbsp pure vanilla extract. I love apple butter, so I’m really looking forward to tasting this on a yummy hot roll!
